Habit (Music Themed 5-Minute Freewrite Challenge)

Good day freewriters! Here is my music themed entry for the freewrite prompt "habit". This 5-Minute Freewrite Challenge was initiated by @mariannewest. Everyone are free to participate in this challenge by checking her profile for the daily prompt, and @freewritehouse.

I heard some songs which featured song samples. Many people mistake it as either plagiarized or a cover. Most artists who does sampling which was termed as interpolation was usually done in by many hip-hop artists, while it also exists in some pop songs. I came across a forum website by which one of the participants accused Puff Daddy of plagiarizing on his songs.

I don't think Puff Daddy plagiarized because he just sampled the songs, and they're credited. Puff Daddy is just one of the hip-hop artists and producers who has a "habit" of sampling old songs in his won. I didn't listen entirely to Puff Daddy's album "No Way Out", but all of the official singles from that album has samples. Here are two of the singles from that album with interpolation.

I'll Be Missing You

This song is very obvious with its sample of the song "Every Breath You Take" by The Police. "I'll Be Missing You" became one of the biggest seller and one of the most successful singles of 1997. For sure, Sting earned a lot of money from the song too. Puff Daddy, along with its featured artist on the song, and Sting performed the song at the VMAs.

Been Around the World

This was another Billboard hit by Puff Daddy from his album "No Way Out". It interpolates the songs by David Bowie, and Lisa Stanfield's "All Around the World", the latter close to Puff Daddy's song. In the video, it also featured Jennifer Lopez, his girlfriend then.
