A camping trip at Lake Lyell - Australia

Aww, staying home during lockdown time brings back my memories of the camping trip at Lake Lyell - NSW Australia at the end of last year. The weather at that time in the summer was so perfect for outdoor activities.
In my opinion, Australia has a great camping culture. Since I first came here, adjusting to a new environment was challenging, but as I explore the country more, I gain a deeper appreciation and find it so fascinating. We have a goal to get a campervan and travel around Australia for a year, hopefully it soon will come true.

Alright, let's get back to our trip last year. Lake Lyell is located on the outskirts of Lithgow, about two and a half hours by car from Sydney. There are over 70 designated campsites at Lake Lyell Recreation Area, we’d tried to book a spot, but during that peak season, it’s full and we were put on the waiting list :((. But lucky for us, nearly at the last minute, we got the call from their staff that someone just cancelled their booking and if we want we can take it, woohooo, after that call we just packed up everything in an hour and headed up there! The scenery along the way is wonderful in the summer, there are a lot of blooming flowers by the roadside, and a lot of new buds have begun to sprout from the branches after the historic bushfire in Australia at the end of 2019.

The campsite was very busy when we arrived, forgive me I didn’t get any picture to show how busy it is but the check-in process is quite quick and easy, there are 2 staffs working everyday until 6pm, they will give you the code to self-open the gate and a map to find the location of your spot. It's a grassy area with campsites along the water's edge, if you’re lucky you can get a spot on the edge of Lake Lyell. The restrooms were surprisingly very clean. We got a large spot on the hill where is very quiet and private.

That is a popular recreational lake for camping, swimming, water skiing, fishing,...So besides being chill, you can join a bunch of outdoor activities, such an ideal place to bring your kids. We also got the chance to approach the kangaroos. Australia is the only place where you can see kangaroos, which are unique to the country.

Although it was just a one-day trip, we got our energy recharged to get back to the stressful life. This is the perfect place to roast marshmallows, enjoy BBQ, and light a campfire. The feeling of happiness I got when I woke up with a self-prepared breakfast in the middle of nature, watching the lake in front of me, cannot be described...!!!
