|| Challenger: What is your version to prepare arepas, first the water and then the flour or vice versa?

Hola a nuestra Colmena || Hello to our Beehive

Good morning my friends Hivers, what a pleasure to greet you again and have the joy of breathing a new day, I hope you are very well and God bless you wherever you go. Today I encourage you to make this challenger with me. What is your version to prepare arepas ?. This idea arose since not all of us prepare the dough to make arepas in the same way and we can find on websites many ways of how to prepare it in this case he devised a controversy that is, What do you add first, the water or the flour or vice versa?

We know that the arepa is known worldwide as a Latin American dish, but it has transcended in many countries through an expansive migration and has become known in many breakfasts, in repetitive lunches and also as dinners. Its main base is cornmeal, but once the arepa is made it can be filled with whatever you prefer. This challenger I want to invite @zapataalex and @kadoshmenorah to participate and make their version of how they prepare their arepa, first the water and then the flour or vice versa.

Para mi preparación necesité los siguientes ingredientes:

For my preparation I needed the following ingredients:

  • Harina de maíz || Cornmeal
  • Sal || Salt
  • Agua || Water
  • Queso mozzarella || Mozzarella cheese

Para el relleno:

For the filling:

  • Atún || Tuna
  • Salsa de tomate || Ketchup
  • Mayonesa || Mayonnaise
  • Mostaza || Mustard

Starting with the preparation and assuming the challenger, the first thing I placed in a bowl was the flour. Why the flour and not the water? Traditionally, or it was the way that I used in my family to see that the corn flour was placed first and then the water. I adopted that way of preparing it. Then I put a teaspoon of salt and lastly the water. A curious fact through this preparation is that the water must be warm. In this way, when it comes to kneading the flour, the texture will be much smoother.

Recalling an anecdote used, first the flour and then the water. One day I did the opposite, first the water and then the flour and I did not calculate the water level with the flour that I had and I did not have more. So for me he will always do my favorite version so as not to take risks.

Once the flour is kneaded, I like to put any type of cheese on it, whatever it may have at the time. For this opportunity I had mozzarella. I grated in cheese and incorporated it into the dough.

To assemble the arepas, I made small balls and then flattened with the palm of my hand, they have to be very round for a better presentation. In a hot pan, I placed the arepa to cook over medium heat. I like to finish them in the oven, so they will be well cooked inside and with a crunchy but soft texture.

Once they are ready in the oven, I open the arepa, put butter and the filling that I made with a can of tuna and I put tomato sauce, mayonnaise and a little mustard, I incorporated everything in a single flavor and I filled the arepa. This is my version of how to prepare an arepa, I hope you liked it.
