Desde hace un par de años, inicié mi vida en el mundo de las competencias de salsa casino, a pesar de que llevo más de la mitad de mi vida bailando. Como ya he mencionado en alguna que otra oportunidad, Venezuela tiene diferentes competencias de casino, aproximadamente como 8 o 10; en esta oportunidad decidí participar en la competencia MargaritaTimbaFest 2021, en su primera edición, aunque realmente mi meta inicial era ir conocer margarita jajaja.
Since a couple of years ago, I started my life in the world of salsa casino competitions, even though I have been dancing for more than half of my life. As I have already mentioned in some other opportunity, Venezuela has different casino competitions, about 8 or 10; this time I decided to participate in the competition MargaritaTimbaFest 2021, in its first edition, although really my initial goal was to go to Margarita hahaha.
Como ya dije en mi país existen diferentes competencias, con diferentes categorías (parejas, grupos, solistas, dúos o tríos), modalidades (improvisadas o coreográficas) y niveles (juveniles, nuevos talentos, noveles y abiertos o libres). En esta oportunidad me tocó competir en dos categorías: Pareja novel, junto a mi mejor amigo Miguel Padrón y Grupo Libre Abierto, junto con otros grandes amigos.
As I said, in my country there are different competitions, with different categories (couples, groups, soloists, duos or trios), modalities (improvised or choreographic) and levels (youth, new talents, novice and open or free). This time I had to compete in two categories: Novice Couple, with my best friend Miguel Padrón and Open Free Group, with other great friends.
Preparación | Preparation
Esta competencia es coreográfica, por lo que recae en nosotros el deber de escoger una canción, editarla, montar la coreografía, limpiarla y obviamente presentarla. El grupo libre quedó a cargo de mi super Director Iván, y mi pareja a cargo de Miguel. Puedo decir que fueron muchísimos ensayos, llantos y estrés, ligados con la vida universitaria y laboral de todos los integrantes. A tal punto que por cuestiones de trabajo mi director tuvo que salir del país casi un mes antes de la competencia.
This competition is choreographed, so it is up to us to choose a song, edit it, choreograph it, clean it up and obviously present it. The free group was in charge of my super director Ivan, and my partner in charge of Miguel. I can say that it was a lot of rehearsals, crying and stress, linked to the university and work life of all the members. To such an extent that for work reasons my director had to leave the country almost a month before the competition.
La canción que decidimos usar para la coreografía de pareja Miguel y yo fue una nueva versión de Taitabilongo de Celia Cruz, una canción que sigue moviendo sentimientos en mi sin importar cuántas veces la escuche.
Destaquemos también que para esta competencia Miguel decidió iniciarse en nuevas categorías como Solista y Duo, aparte del grupo y la pareja, por lo que nuestro tiempo montando y arreglando la coreografía se vio bastante limitado.
The song we decided to use for the couple choreography was a new version of Taitabilongo by Celia Cruz, a song that still moves me no matter how many times I listen to it.
Let's also note that for this competition Miguel decided to start in new categories such as Soloist and Duo, apart from group and couple, so our time assembling and arranging the choreography was quite limited.

El tiempo pasó volando y cuando quisimos darnos cuenta estábamos montados en un ferry rumbo a margarita, dónde nos alojaríamos en el hotel Venetur, lugar en el que también se realizaría la competencia
Time flew by and before we knew it we were on a ferry to Margarita, where we would be staying at the Venetur hotel, where the competition would also take place.
Pasaron muchas cosas, tuvimos percances musicales (canciones que se quedaron a la mitad), la tarima se encontraba a la orilla de la playa, por lo que permanecía humedecida y ese tipo de cosas... Pero puedo decir que repetiría la experiencia una y mil veces.
A lot of things happened, we had musical mishaps (songs that were left in the middle), the stage was on the shore of the beach, so it stayed wet and that kind of thing... But I can say that I would repeat the experience a thousand times.
Al momento de subirme a la tarima para presentar mi pareja, estaba demasiado nerviosa por qué muchos de los participantes anteriores (Miguel en su solista incluído) se habían resbalado y caído. Aún así decidí poner mi mejor cara y que si me caía, pues, me levantaba y seguía, cosa que afortunadamente no pasó. Pero si tuve varios errores, los cuales me costaron la medalla, aún así, creo que dejé un pedacito de mi corazón en esa presentación, y no me molesta para nada los resultados, no sé si ya lo he dicho, pero el talento es muchísimo por lo que perder no necesariamente es malo.
When I got up on stage to introduce my partner, I was too nervous because many of the previous participants (Miguel in his solo included) had slipped and fallen. Even so, I decided to put my best face forward and if I fell, well, I would get up and carry on, which fortunately didn't happen. But I did make some mistakes, which cost me the medal, even so, I think I left a little piece of my heart in that performance, and I don't mind the results at all, I don't know if I've already said it, but talent is a lot, so losing is not necessarily a bad thing.
