It was a cold winter morning, and the world was afire with the most recent troubling piece of global news. People knew something like that might happen, but they never thought it would happen in their lifetime. But then a prediction had been given by the famous psychic of Brisbane, who lived somewhere on the fringes of the Australian continent. This famous psychic lived all alone in the thick, bushy and wild forests of Australia in a small but sophisticated cabin. She was known by the name Ira. No one knew her real name, nor was there any record of her lineage. She just surfaced from nowhere, and began to unsettle the world with her predictions that came true with an uncanny precision.

Some said she was a human incarnation of the Greek goddess, Psyche, and she had come to bless the world at such a perilous time with her supernatural knowledge. And her knowledge of the future was indeed supernatural.

Ira was the one that predicted that President Jane Ida would become the first female US president. When she said it, many doubted because it was an impossible thing, considering that Jane Ida was of black descent, and racist sentiments against blacks still plagued the American nation at that time. But it happened and Jane Ida became US President, and from there people began to trust her predictions.

She had also forseen the destructive earthquake that wrecked Tokyo, Japan's capital in the mid-1980s. Her revelation had saved thousands of lives because the government of Japan was able to evacuate enough people before the tragedy struck.

That's when the world's attention was turned to her and she was worshiped as a goddess among men. She had become so famous that some of her clients included the most eminent political figures of the day. At one time she was visited by the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom who according to rumors, wanted to know how things would turn out concerning the impeachment move made against him.

Within ten years of her practice as a high-profile psychic she had gotten a reputation as someone on whom the world depended to inform them about the future. Her most recent revelation was shocking and unbelievable, and it meant the end of humans on the planet.

The world, especially the scientists debated it for months, some called it a crazy and inaccurate prediction. The most famous astronomer in the world at that time, David Langston, said it wouldn't happen in a thousand years because, any other life inhabiting our galaxy would take at least a thousand years to get to the earth.

This unsettling proclamation by the psychic was so controversial that it divided the world into two sides. One side which believed it would happen based on the fact that the word of Ira never failed and the other side, the ones who tried to logicalize everything, said it was just a bad joke; that it would never happen.

Ira's prophecy was terrifying enough to strike terror in the hearts of several world leaders who called a secret meeting to try to find a way to resolve the situation. The newspapers said those world leaders were "...superstitious crazy politicians, who thought the world would come to an end simply because a deluded woman had said it will."

Three years to the time given by the prophecy, an asteroid smashed into Vorkuta, Russia. The effect was so devastating that it levelled half part of the tiny town, and the casualties was in the thousands. Some sort of sophisticated space ship was found at the location of the asteroid impact. It contained all manner of things completely alien to anyone who saw it. Some people speculated that the asteroid and the spaceship were just the harbingers of the aliens which was prophesied would take over the world and enslave humankind.

At this point, the asteroid disaster seemed true enough that several nations of the world refurbished and prepped their arsenals. Thousands of scientists were put to work to find a means of putting the supposed alien invasion at bay.

At this point, Ira had disappeared and no more was heard or seen of her. It seemed she had vanished just as she came, and not very long conspiracy theories began to spring up about her disappearance.

The day of the prophesied disaster finally arrived. And as sure as death the invasion happened as Ira had said it will 11 years ago.

At midday supersonic spacecrafts were seen descending from the skies, and burning rocks with them, so much that the sun was blotted out. Out of the spaceships stepped out the most terrifying creatures no human eye had ever seen.

While the battle raged, the world leaders had been moved to secure bunkers, and most of the general masses took shelter in secure places, while the military fought to take down the invading aliens.

For about 9 months it raged. A brilliant Russian scientist saved the day by inventing a special weapon that proved fatal to the aliens, and with it they were driven back into space, out of the world, and a ring of protective plasma was used to envelope the earth, to prevent the aliens from invading the earth again

It took years for the world to return back to normalcy. The alien invasion had united the nations of the world and together they worked to rebuild the earth, which was done within a space of 3 decades. By then the world had become incredibly better than it had ever been before the invasion.

Soon the disturbing news began to reach the nations of the world. The President of China had made a shocking confession on his deathbed, and the shockwaves threatened to tear up the society more than the invasion itself had done. It didn't take long for several other heads of state to come forward with the same shocking confession.

The alien invasion was an elaborate hoax. There had been no aliens, the asteroid showers were all staged. But then people were asking how it was possible, technology wasn't that advanced yet so how could it be possible?

The indited world leaders, the Presidents of China, Russia, The UK, and Germany, said the plot had been made possible by a very sophisticated form of technology. A group of select scientists had worked for years to develop it. The alien beings themselves were a kind of bio-humanoid. Everything about the alien invasion had been engineered by this group of world leaders, because they believed some sort of global disaster was needed to make the peoples of the world unite and advance very rapidly.

And even Ira herself was a product of this elaborate piece of deception. She was a psychic indeed but most of the events she had predicted which came to pass, relied heavily on scientific and political data collected by the advanced tech. developed by the Presidents of those five countries.

The world was torn between forgiving the erring world leaders or making them pay the ultimate price. Many said they should be forgiven, others said they must pay for deception of the world and for the destruction of millions of lives.

A burnt child dreads fire, they say. The world now became clear eyed about everything thing that happened from that time on. They won't be decieved like that again. And special measures were taken to make sure such event did not repeat itself. It even took decades for the world to recover from the shock.
