Understanding The Depths Of Responsibility

Happy Sunday and Merry Valentine dear hiveans. Today I'll be using a short story to explain the depths of responsibility.

A few weeks ago, A friend of mine got into a messy situation. He had gotten his girlfriend pregnant and couldn't tell his mum about it. Neither could he ask her for money after squandering the lot she had given him for allowance. So he decided to ask me for financial assistance in helping the girl and the pregnancy since she was scared of aborting the baby. So I agreed to help him out.

I sent him some money and he thanked me. Little did I know he was coming again for the help. This time he asked for money and his reasons were that his girlfriend finally agreed to eliminate the pregnancy. However, the effort was futile and now she was bleeding daily in pain. Here I had to ask myself…

Why do people take drastic decisions without thinking of the consequences?

Why have unprotected sex when you're not ready to father a child?

Why don't you have little savings for emergencies?

Why burden other people with your problems?

So after these long thoughts, I refused to help him. I wanted him to understand how important being responsible was. To cut the story short, his mum found out and after much rage and disappointment, she told them to keep the baby. He would start working as a student to fend for his new family.

So yesterday, he called over the phone and told me how I wasn't a good friend, how he expected much from me and was disappointed, lots of other crap. I'll leave that aside.

But Why Am I Relating This To Responsibility?

You see, some people aren't good at asking for help because they're so used to being 'the helper'. Throughout their life, they've experienced an unbalanced give and take so their instinct is usually " I'll figure it out on my own". Self-reliance is all they've ever known and you don't expect them to keep helping when nobody else helps and especially when you do not think before taking action.

You don't have to expect too much from anybody because they owe you nothing. It is their choice to help you after evaluating your story. The sense of entitlement most people have these days is rather too disgusting. You and you alone are responsible for your mistakes. It doesn't have to be someone else's problem.

Take charge of your life, Be responsible, think twice or maybe thrice before you act, and remember responsibility starts from the little things. If you cannot handle the little situations, you never can handle the bigger ones.

I hope this message meets someone dearly. Have a nice day.
