Among my works and social networks I have found many comments, from young to experienced artists, and specially people interested in the field but haven't taken their first step.
"I wish I could have the talent you have", "if I had a much more professional materials", "I wish I could or would have studied at an art school", "if I had started at a young age"...
These are phrases I've always found but... I'd like to show you something.
Entre mis obras y redes sociales he encontrado muchos comentarios, desde artistas jóvenes a experimentados, y especialmente gente interesada en el campo pero que no ha dado su primer paso.
"Ojalá pudiera tener el talento que tú tienes", "si tuviera un material mucho más profesional", "Ojalá pudiera o hubiera estudiado en una escuela de arte", "si hubiera empezado desde joven"...
Son frases que siempre he encontrado pero... Me gustaría mostrarte algo.
This is the graphic tablet I have used for my works... including the most complex ones. My laptop has been with me for about 5 to 6 years, and I have been working on Paint tool sai (one of the simplest programs with few tools available) since it is the only one I could use without it freezing every 5 minutes.
Another truth of my learning path is that I didn't finish the University; I wanted to run away; a lot of stress, and the little I felt i was learning... even more when I tell you that the methods in which I do my work I found them outside and more by my own.
The subject that made me repeat semester (semester that helped me as an opportunity to get a deeper learning) was "Techniques"... Reason: I didn't know how to give a sense of depth in my works... Those who know my paints will know the irony of this. I won't deny that this was the truth in the middle of my studies.
Esta es la tableta gráfica que he usado para mis trabajos... incluyendo los más complejos. La laptop lleva conmigo unos 5 o 6 años, y he estado trabajando en Paint Tool sai (uno de los programas más simples y con pocas herramientas disponibles) ya que es el único que podía usar sin que se congelara cada 5 minutos.
Otra verdad de mi ruta de aprendizaje es que no terminé la Universidad; quería huir; mucho estrés, y lo poco que sentía que estaba aprendiendo... más aún cuando menciono que los métodos en los que hago mis trabajos los aprendi fuera de este.
La asignatura que me hizo repetir semestre (semestre que me sirvió de oportunidad para aprender a mayor profundidad) fue "Técnicas"... Razón: no sabía cómo dar una sensación de profundidad a mis trabajos... Los que conocen mis pinturas sabrán la ironía de esto. No negaré que era la verdad a mitad de mis estudios.
Many people believe that my beginning was simple and straightforward, that my level could only come from talent and naturalness, that my growth was always linear without failure... but in reality I also had to go through many moments when I thought I was not good at this. Moments of collapse because I didn't understand anything, times when I had to lower my ego to accept my mistakes, I had to keep my goal even though I felt that it would take years to reach it, until little by little I learned.

Mucha gente confía que mi comienzo fue simple y directo, que mi nivel sólo podía venir del talento y la naturalidad, que el crecimiento fue siempre lineal sin fallas... pero en realidad también tuve que pasar por muchos momentos en los que pensé que no era buena en esto. Momentos de colapso porque no entendía nada, momentos en los que tuve que bajar mi ego para aceptar mis errores, tuve que mantener mi meta aunque sentía que me llevaría años alcanzarla, hasta que poco a poco aprendí.

Every time I learn something new, I believe less and less in talent.
Cada vez que aprendo algo nuevo, creo cada vez menos en el talento.
It was the comment from a friend after talking about this topic with her, and one comment i believe in as well.
"That's right, you have to practice and practice, draw hours for months or even years to finally see a good result"... many will think... and actually, this is false. I'll tell a different way of thinking it: People drive cars for thousands of hours in their lives, don't they? Then, following this logic, everyone should be ready to compete in NASCAR or Formula 1, right?
Hours alone are not enough, you have to push yourself to give something else, a new challenge, a new method, a new learning; just as overcoming a loss or a break is not achieved by simply letting time pass, the improvement in a skill is not achieved by repetition in a given time. What makes a person improve is not time, it is the process; going out of the comfort zone, learning, integrating something new into our mentality and way of executing.
Fue el comentario de una amiga después de hablar este tema con ella, y un comentario en el que también estoy de acuerdo.
"Así es, tienes que practicar y practicar, dibujar horas durante meses o incluso años para ver finalmente un buen resultado"... muchos pensarán... y en realidad, esto es falso. Voy a plantearles algo: La gente conduce durante miles de horas en sus vidas, ¿no es así? Entonces, siguiendo esta lógica, todos deberían estar listos para competir en NASCAR o en la Fórmula 1, ¿no?
Las horas por sí solas no son suficientes, hay que esforzarse por dar algo más, un nuevo desafío, un nuevo método, un nuevo aprendizaje; así como la superación de una pérdida o una ruptura no se logra simplemente dejando pasar el tiempo, la mejora de una habilidad no se logra con la repetición en un tiempo determinado. Lo que hace que una persona mejore no es el tiempo, es el proceso; salir de la zona de confort, aprender, integrar algo nuevo en nuestra mentalidad y forma de ejecución.

Pushing oneself does not mean forcing, but motivating. Feel comfortable, give yourself rewards or pats on the back every time you learn something new. If you don't feel satisfaction for what you do, you will eventually look for any excuse to postpone your jobs (because of the stress you will feel).
Every time I take the time to practice and dedicate myself to something that helps me reach my goal I congratulate myself, pat myself on the back and look for ways to feel that dopamine hit (even if it was just a little job i did). Making your mind feel pleasure for the fact of working, will make you want to dedicate much more time and thus create a positive spiral of satisfaction, work and interest.
Empujarse no significa forzarse, sino motivarse.Sentirse cómodo, darse recompensas o palmaditas en la espalda cada vez que se aprende algo nuevo. Si no sientes satisfacción por lo que haces, eventualmente buscarás cualquier excusa para posponer tus trabajos (por el estrés que sentirás).
Cada vez que me tomo el tiempo para practicar y dedicarme a algo que me ayuda a alcanzar mi objetivo me felicito, me doy palmaditas en la espalda y busco maneras de sentir ese golpe de la dopamina (aunque sólo sea por un pequeño trabajo que hice). Hacer que tu mente sienta placer por el hecho de trabajar, te hará querer dedicar mucho más tiempo y así crear una espiral positiva de satisfacción, trabajo e interés.
