Restore our Earth: Earth Day 2021

Happy Earth Day! The first Earth Day was on April 22, 1970. Twenty million people gathered, holding rallies, demonstrations, and engaging in activities to promote a clean and safe living environment in our country. To this day, the first Earth Day remains the largest single-day protest in human history. In 1990, this event became global.

A direct benefit of that day is the founding of the United States Environmental Protection Agency, the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, and the Endangered Species Act. This was the beginning of radical changes that were needed to improve our environment. Of late, climate change and human-induced alterations of the natural world are putting our Planet Earth in jeopardy.

Climate change is any significant long-term change in the weather of a region (or the whole Earth) over a significant period of time. Climate change is about abnormal variations to the climate and the effects of these variations on other parts of the Earth. source

Reduce, reuse, and recycle. Cut down on what you throw away. Follow the three "R's" to conserve natural resources and landfill space.

Volunteer. Volunteer for cleanups in your community. You can get involved in protecting your watershed, too.

Educate. When you further your own education, you can help others understand the importance and value of our natural resources.

Conserve water. The less water you use, the less runoff and wastewater that eventually end up in the ocean.

Choose sustainable. Learn how to make smart seafood choices at www.fishwatch.gov. Shop wisely. Buy less plastic and bring a reusable shopping bag. Use long-lasting light bulbs. Energy-efficient light bulbs reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Also, flip the light switch off when you leave the room!

Plant a tree. Trees provide food and oxygen. They help save energy, clean the air, and help combat climate change.

Don't send chemicals into our waterways. Choose non-toxic chemicals in the home and office.

Bike more. Drive less.

Climate change is the single most serious threat facing our planet today. There is no way around it, we must reduce carbon emissions. It is possible for a more sustainable path to be followed.

Every year, I celebrate Earth Day by planting a tree or three. Trees are beneficial to the environment in many ways. They help produce oxygen and filter out pollutants to clean the air...plus, they are beautiful. This year, Lowes Is giving away free tree saplings just in time for Earth Day.

Lowe's is doing their part to make your yard a little greener this Earth Day. The home improvement chain is giving away 500,000 free tree saplings on Thursday, April 22 to honor the eco-friendly holiday and encourage customers to put their green thumbs to use.

And just like that, this post is over. Come back tomorrow and we will do it again. Have an amazing Earth Day and just remember, every little bit counts.

All I have are my words, armed in my mind, written in pen, stand by stand. Oh, yes. Still by hand. It has a different feel. Altered not by keys, backspace, and delete, I write, erase, tear it to pieces and start all over again. And again.

It’s my way. I walk out to the deep end of the page and dive right in.

The Naming of Cats

The Naming of Cats is a difficult matter,
It isn’t just one of your holiday games;
You may think at first I’m as mad as a hatter
When I tell you, a cat must have THREE DIFFERENT NAMES.
