Happy Fourth of July America

When it was raised at Iwo Jima, it was a symbol of victory. During the protests of Vietnam, it was lit on fire. Politicians have tried to wrap themselves up in it to show their colors, although, with a nation so deeply divided at the moment, nobody wants to claim the flag as their own.

Shame on you, America. What has happened to you?

Each part of the flag stands for something. Fifty stars for the fifty states; thirteen stripes for the 13 British Colonies, which declared their independence on July 4th, 1776. Our flag is a symbol, a way to show the world what we stand for. It shows that we are connected to one another and that, yes, we are, indeed, on the same team. And because of all this, the flag is special, and it means so very much – and we should treat it with respect. God Bless America.source

With the very first fourth of july, the cannon was fired thirteen times for the thirteen colonies and thirteen firewords were set off. To this day, a fireworks display is used to celebrate national prosperity and patriotism.

I trust you had a wonderful celebration today. I remain grateful for all that our nation has given me and I intend to do my part in working together to make our country great once again.

The colors of the flag are symbolic as well; red symbolizes hardiness and valor, white symbolizes purity and innocence, and blue represents vigilance, perseverance and justice.

All I have are my words, armed in my mind, written in pen, stand by stand. Oh, yes. Still by hand. It has a different feel. Altered not by keys, backspace, and delete, I write, erase, tear it to pieces and start all over again. And again.

It’s my way. I walk out to the deep end of the page and dive right in.

The Naming of Cats

The Naming of Cats is a difficult matter,
It isn’t just one of your holiday games;
You may think at first I’m as mad as a hatter
When I tell you, a cat must have THREE DIFFERENT NAMES.
