Introduction

Everyone can become depressed on bad days. It’s normal. What’s not normal though is when the depression never subsided no matter what you do. Moreover, those suffering from depression often could not function as productive members of society.

This kind of depression is very dangerous for the person in question. It is a type of mental illness, and like all other mental illness it should addressed appropriately.

Why you might ask? It’s because depression can be deadly. Yes, depression kills.

Depression Kills

Most people tend to ignore depression probably because they’re unaware that it’s a type of mental illness that needed to be taken seriously. After all, it’s normal to feel depressed from time to time so no big deal, right?

Wrong!

Depression is a killer that had taken the lives of countless unfortunate souls over the years, and most of them are young people with bright future ahead of them.

Moreover depression could hit anyone regardless age, gender, social standing, or even religion. There’s no escaping depression once it sets in unless one quickly seek professional help.

Although depression has no cure there are treatments that could allow a person with depression to live a long happy life. But one must be quick to act as depression could not be held back by willpower alone.

People who have depression often take their own lives. One could even say that it’s one of the main causes of suicide around the world. Moreover, most of its victims are young people who rather choose to end their own lives than to suffer prolonged depression.

Support Groups

People suffering from depression are not hopeless bunch that could only suffer in silence or end their own lives. As long as proper support and treatment are given even those with the most advance stage of depression could recover.

Medical professionals often advice their patients to join a support group to help fight depression. Support group are a group usually consisting of people currently suffering from depression and those that managed to free themselves from the clutches of depression.

These groups often held meetings discussing their experiences, and the methods they used to fight depression. One of the most important functions of a support group is to allow people that had suffered, and/or currently suffering from the mental illness to connect with one another.

Support groups aren’t only composed of depression patients alone. Even those who have not suffered from severe depression could also form their own support groups to help suffering patient. For example, a family could form a support group consisted of family members, relatives, and close friends to help the member of their family suffering from a severe case of depression.

The effectiveness of support groups in treating depression couldn’t be stated enough with words alone. And with the help of anti-depressant medications, the treatment could become ever more effective.

At the end of the day, one of the major causes of depression is loneliness and alienation so a support group that consists of family, relatives, friends, and people suffering from the same mental illness is essential to the treatment.
**
Final Say**

When one was feeling depressed, one of the worst thing that one could do was to ignore it. Like most diseases, the earlier the disease was diagnosed and treated, the more effective the treatment would be. And the longer the depression was left to linger, the more dangerous it would become.

So if you or anyone you knew is suffering from depression then I would advise that you seek professional help as quickly as possible. And no matter what you do, never ignore depression. After all, depression could kill.
