Portfolio: The suggestive drawings of Hélène Planquelle

A few days ago I saw a curious comment in one of the photos of my Instagram account. It was three hearts horizontally like these: <3 <3 <3. That was the first thing that caught my attention; the second thing was to see that the comment was from someone I did not know and was clearly of foreign origin, so I visited their page and was very pleasantly surprised, and that is how I got to know the work of Hélène Planquelle. Isn't the internet wonderful?

Hélène is a French self-taught artist with training in the humanities, foreign languages and intercultural communication, which is initially curious, but not so much after thinking about it, since art is a humanistic discipline that communicates beyond the spectator's culture.

She develops her work both on traditional canvases and on any sheet of paper, and uses both oil paints and pencils and pens. Her themes are always suggestive, somewhat disturbing and very expressive. Sensuality, eroticism and submission are among the constants that one can notice in her work.

Another interesting characteristic of her work is the fragmentation and superposition of scenes in a single work, like telling a story in a single image, which gives a very particular narrative to her work, and the possibility of multiple readings of it.

Here is a sample of what I liked the most about this French artist. To learn more about her work, I recommend you visit herwebsite and follow her on Instagram. Until next time.
