Shortly before we left Australia, we had to smell a little city air. Although I would prefer to live in a small, quiet suburb, I love exploring cities and living there for a few days. Brisbane has become one of my favorite cities and during this stay we took a closer look at the alternative district of West End.
Kurz bevor wir Australien verlassen haben, mussten wir noch ein wenig Stadtluft riechen. Obwohl ich es bevorzugen würde in einem kleinen, ruhigen Vorort zu.leben, liebe ich es Städte zu erkunden und dort für einige Tage zu leben. Brisbane ist mittlerweile eine meiner Lieblingsstädte und bei diesem Aufenthalt haben wir uns den alternativen Stadtteil West End einmal genauer angeschaut.
West End is a quiet district, far away from the skyscrapers of the city center and known for its weekend markets, its beautiful green spaces and of course the street art that is spread over the entire district. This makes West End a very colorful part of the city and the positive effect of this legal graffitis immediately catches your eye. there is hardly any vandalism in the form of bad graffiti as in other large cities. in fact, all the paintings are true masterpieces.
West End ist ein ruhiger Stadtteil, fernab von den Wolkenkratzern der Innenstadt und bekannt für seine Wochenendmärkte, seine schönen Grünflächen und natürlich die Streetart die über den gesamten Stadtteil verteilt ist. Diese macht West End zu einem sehr bunten Stadtteil und der positive Effekt dieser legalen Graffitis fällt einem sofort ins Auge. Es gibt kaum Vandalismus in form von schlechten Schmierereien wie in anderen Großstädten. Tatsächlich sind die ganzen Gemälde wahre Meisterwerke.
As always with art, there are works here that some people like but others don't. While you can see that some of the paintings were created in the artist's leisure time as a hobby, some of these masterpieces were created during a streetart festival in 2018. It is not uncommon that the completion of such a building-high work of art sometimes takes 5 days.
Most of these paintings are in Fish Lane, which is even mentioned in travel guides as a must see. Sometimes you have to take a step back to see the full extent of the painting.
wie immer mit der Kunst gibt es auch hier werke die manch einer mag, andere jedoch nicht. während man manchen der Gemälde ansieht das sie eher in der Freizeit als hobby des Künstlers entstanden sind, sind einige dieser Meisterwerke während einem Streetart Festival im Jahr 2018 entstanden. es ist nicht selten das die Fertigstellung eines solchen, Gebäudehohen Kunstwerks auch mal 5 Tage dauert.
Die meisten dieser Gemälde befinden sich in der Fish Lane, welche sogar in Reiseführern als ein must see erwähnt wird. Manchmal muss man auch einen schritt zurück machen um das gesamte ausmaß des Gemäldes zu erkennen.
All of these paintings are really fascinating, but what I find most impressive is always the very large ones, which are several stories high. it's really unbelievable how the artists here keep track and don't make any mistakes.
all diese Gemälde sind wirklich faszinierend aber am beeindruckendsten finde ich immer die ganz großen, welche mehrere Stockwerke hoch sind. Es ist wirklich unglaublich wie die Künstler hier den überblick behalten und keine Fehler machen.
But West End is not just about street art. One of the main streets, the Boundary Street, which runs through the entire district, is known for the many small street food restaurants and the hip cafes.
If you can't find something to eat here, you won't find anything anywhere. Greek and Vietnamese are very popular here, but there are also many vegan restaurants in the West End.
We visited two of these restaurants, PJ's Steaks West End which has traditional Philadelphia steak and cheese sandwiches and the Wrapture, a small but really great place that specializes in all kinds of wraps. I can really recommend visiting Wrapture, because the wraps were really delicious and the service was super friendly.
Aber in west end dreht es sich nicht nur um Streetart. Eine der Hauptstraßen, die Boundary Street, welche sich durch den gesamten Stadtteil zieht, ist bekannt für die vielen kleinen Streetfood Restaurants und die hippen Cafes.
Wenn du hier nichts passendes zu essen findest, dann findest du nirgendwo etwas. Griechisch und vietnamesisch ist hier sehr viel vertreten, aber auch viele vegane Restaurants sind in West End zu finden.
Wir haben zwei dieser Restaurants besucht, PJ's Steaks West End in welchem es traditionelle Philadelphia steak and cheese sandwiches gibt und das Wrapture, ein kleiner aber wirklich toller Laden der sich auf jegliche art von Wraps spezialisiert hat. Ich kann wirklich sehr empfehlen das Wrapture einmal zu besuchen, da die Wraps wirklich super lecker waren und die Bedienung mega freundlich.
To make the afternoon perfect, I recommend a coffee in the unmistakable Who shot the Barista. The coffee here is really unique, but the outside facade of the small cafe in the West End is even better. grab a coffee and relax in West End Common - Bunyapa Park.
Um den Nachmittag perfekt zu machen, empfehle ich einen Kaffee im unübersehbaren Who shot the Barista. Der Kaffee hier ist wirklich einmalig gut, aber noch besser ist die Außenfasade des kleinen Cafes in West End. schnapp dir einen Kaffee und entspann dich im West End Common - Bunyapa Park.
