Daruma's origins

Legend has it that the Buddhist monk Bodhidharma (called Daruma in Japan) spent nine years meditating until he reached precious enlightenment, losing his arms and legs in the process. It's also said that Daruma tore his eyelids to avoid falling asleep. That is why the Daruma amulets are dolls without arms or legs and they don't have eyes originally either.

Daruma amulets are the representation of desires or goals to be achieved, and the color of the Daruma depends on it. The most famous are red (to attract good fortune), but there are also yellow for protection, gold for luck in finances, pink for relationships in general, white for love, purple for longevity, black for safety and green for health, among others

The function of this amulet is to inspire and motivate the person who acquires it to achieve their desired goal, for example: if you want to achieve a goal in the financial field, you must buy a golden Daruma, in case you want good luck, you must buy a red one (the most common). These come without eyes, but there is a reason for that.

They are called blind Daruma. The objective is that once you are clear about what your goal will be, paint one of your Daruma's eyes (by custom it's usually the left one) and place your amulet in a visible place. This will be a constant reminder that you have a pending goal and will serve as an incentive for you.

It's clear that the goal must be something that you can achieve in the short or long term, but it must be something credible and achievable. Once you have accomplished your goal, you must paint the other eye of your Daruma.

The Daruma are made of paper mache or wood, they have an ovoid shape and usually contain a weight at their base that serves to balance themselves in case of being pushed, that is, they always remain standing. This goes hand in hand with the philosophy and purpose of the amulet itself, that is, we must not allow ourselves to be defeated and we have to achieve our goals with effort and dedication, in other words, be persistent until we achieve them.

They are usually bought as gifts, but you can also buy it for you.

By the end of the year or the beginning of the next, the Daruma Kuyo festival is held, in which people return the Darumas and burn them in a huge pyre. This is taken as the goal accomplished and a closed cycle, just to start a new one. In fact, people take advantage of the festival to buy new Darumas.

Foreigners prefer to keep their amulets as a representative form of the goals achieved and thank them for having achieved them. In my opinion, I think I would do the same.

Now you are probably wondering what does a Daruma have to do with Hive? Well, being and growing in Hive is a constant struggle, it's to be persevering and that is the main philosophy of a Daruma.

Hive is not for the impatient or lazy, it's a social network where articles of our liking and interest are shared that others may also like, but we must constantly work to improve every day and over time our effort will pay off.

What I like the most about Hive is that I can talk about whatever I want and I like and really enjoy making each post. I always watch videos on the platform to improve and I post daily to be constant.

I follow the Daruma philosophy, it doesn't matter if there is no cure, it doesn't matter if I received a negative comment, it doesn't matter if it's not at the moment turning out as expected, I still be constant and I continue working to improve.

Whenever there is effort, sooner or later the rewards come. Follow the Daruma philosophy and you will get good results. Finally, I will leave you with a nice Japanese proverb that is very relevant:

«Si te caes siete veces, levántate ocho.»

"If you fall seven times, get up eight."
