Okay, maybe not the bagged avocados and such. But the glory of vine ripened tomatoes and fresh watermelon signal the arival of summer foods and good times. Swinging in hammocks while making shapes out of the passing clouds, while listening to simple tunes that evoke simple times.
I really need that amidst the sh*t show debilitating my country these days. The misinformation squads continue to permeate the airwaves with baseless slander and outright lies. You'd think anyone in their right mind would see right through it all.
And therein lies the issue. The years of seeding doubt and distrust by the manipulators has paid off handsomely for those wishing to replace democracy with dictatorship and anarchy, defended by cadres of lawyers and corupt judges looking to cash in. Republican Sydney Powell said it best in her legal defense for insisting the voting machines in America were rigged when she said, under oath, "Reasonable people wouldn't believe what we're claiming."
There is nothing "reasonable" about toppling democracy for profit, but it's the goal, and now within sight.
The latest victim is the current President, who is being attacked from all sides as weak, and incapable of surviving another term. A year ago, the powerful Republican speaker of the House of Representatives had three ministrokes live on air, yet the liars defended him to no end and insisted he retain his position.
Let me go on the record here by saying that I don't think either candidate should be elected. It's time for old money to back away from 80 year old baby boomers and let the kids in. They're highly educated, have the experience, and are far more in touch with our day-to-day realities.
And thus, we celebrate summer and holidays. Simple pleasures and good company. Anything to divert our thoughts from what's coming in November. In the meantime, the world is watching and wondering.
