Come di consueto oggi vi porto dentro una nuova Anteprima di un articolo che fra qualche giorno o settimana vedrete Nella Mente di un SerialFiller, il mio blog interamente incentrato sul mondo delle serie tv e di cui, da qualche mese, ho deciso di regalarvi costantemente, in anticipo su quello che pubblicherò, gran parte dei post che vedrete su www.serialfiller.org.

La liturgia che ha preceduto questo devastante episodio è stata sacra tanto come quanto quella che precede lo scioglimento del sangue di San Gennaro, o l'apertura di una corrida la domenica della Feria di Siviglia, o come quella che anticipa la fumata bianca che annuncia un nuovo Papa.
Sapevamo tutti che qualcosa di terrificante e di ineluttabile sarebbe avvenuto.
Non ancora eravamo in grado di determinare il cosa ed il come, ma eravamo certi che sarebbe accaduto.
Puntuale come lo sbocciare di un fiore in primavera quell'evento che tutto cambia e da cui nessun personaggio mai più potrà tornare indietro è avvenuto.
Pochi minuti ed una scena finale mozzafiato, preparata nei minimi dettagli, carica di pathos e tensione sempre crescente, culminata con uno sparo e 2 corpi annodati dal brivido mentre la fiamma di una candela oscilla come un pendolo fra la vita e la morte, pochi minuti e tutto il discorso intorno a Kim, Jimmy e Better Call Saul muta come la pelle di un serpente.

Qualunque sia la risposta essa non cambierà il vento, quello stesso vento che sposta la fiamma di quella candela senza spegnerla e che adesso dirigerà i corpi e le vite dei 2 innamorati in direzioni a noi tanto note quanto ignote.
Eh si, perchè noi sappiamo esattamente che Saul vivrà e sappiamo esattamente che direzione prenderà. Lo sappiamo perchè abbiamo assistito a 5 stagioni di Breaking Bad in cui lui era un colorato e vivido protagonista. In Breaking Bad, però, Kim non è mai comparsa e Lalo è stato solo un nome pronunciato dallo stesso Saul in una scena che allora ci sembrava vuota e che oggi assume significati conturbanti e feroci ("Lalo sent you?").

Oggi, più che mai, ci chiediamo che fine farà Kim, che fine farà il rapporto fra Kim e Jimmy.
Ci chiediamo perchè il Saul Goodman di Breaking Bad fosse cosi viscido e chiacchierone. E' stata una reazione estrema ad un lutto? E' stata (o meglio sarà) una maschera da indossare per far si che tutto scorra? E' stata (o meglio sarà) una via di uscita autoimposta per sopravvivere alle minacce di Lalo? E' stata (o meglio sarà) una reazione uguale ed opposta ad un addio bruciante ed inatteso della persona amata?

Quale delle mille teorie che impazzano sul web avrà la meglio?
A noi, francamente, poco importa, tale è la delizia ed il sublime che avvolge un episodio in cui i nodi vengono al pettine ed in cui tutti devono fronteggiare la paura, lo sgomento che sopraggiunge quando il destino ineffabile bussa alla tua porta.

Nei suoi occhi la sorpresa. Negli occhi di Jesse la paura. Negli occhi di noi spettatori la certezza che tutto sarebbe cambiato. Nelle nostre orecchie un altro sparo. Sordo. Cieco. Il buio. Una stagione che finisce. Un arrivederci a qualche mese dopo. Per fare cosa se non per raccogliere i cocci di quello che quello sparo e quella scelta determinarono.
Jesse finì per crollare, per autodistruggersi e per generare lo tsunami che avrebbe coinvolto Heisenberg e la sua famiglia ma anche Gus e tutti gli astanti.
Questo sparo, quello indirizzato da Lalo alla tempia di Howard, cos'è se non un rimando alle conseguenze sulla psiche di Saul e Kim?
La loro unione e la loro convinzione che destino avrà dopo questo sanguinoso evento?
Chi dei 2 è destinato a crollare per primo?
Crolleranno insieme?

If you are reading this post, most likely you have witnessed, already for a few days, the shocking mid season finale of Better Call Saul, titled Plan And Execute, in which many things happened but of which we will remember one thing in particular, the one that happened in the finale and that no one, probably, would have expected.
In addition to all that, one thing seems clear: we will never again be able to look at a candle flame in the same way, and we will never again be able to look at it without thinking back to the last, inescapable minutes of Plan And Execute.
As usual, some small hint of what happened will be there, so do not proceed with the reading from here on in case you do not want spoilers.

The liturgy that preceded this devastating episode was as sacred as that which precedes the melting of the blood of San Gennaro, or the opening of a bullfight on Feria Sunday in Seville, or as that which anticipates the white smoke announcing a new Pope.
We all knew that something terrifying and inescapable was going to happen.
We were not yet able to determine the what and the how, but we were certain that it would happen.
Punctual as the blooming of a flower in spring that event that changes everything and from which no character can ever return happened.
A few minutes and a breathtaking final scene, prepared to the tiniest detail, charged with pathos and ever-increasing tension, culminating with a gunshot and 2 bodies knotted by the thrill as a candle flame swings like a pendulum between life and death, a few minutes and all the talk around Kim, Jimmy and Better Call Saul shifts like the skin of a snake.
Lalo Salamanca's shot resembles that Boeing that crashed into one of the Twin Towers on 9/11. The world would never be the same after that crash. The Better Call Saul universe would never be the same after that shot of Mr. De Guzman.
Kim and Jimmy facing the burning flame of defeat, facing the weight of the consequences from their choices.
Defeated? Rushed? Debatable?
Whatever the answer it will not change the wind, that same wind that shifts the flame of that candle without extinguishing it and that will now direct the bodies and lives of the 2 lovers in directions as familiar as they are unknown to us.
Oh yes, because we know exactly that Saul will live and we know exactly what direction he will take. We know this because we have watched 5 seasons of Breaking Bad in which he was a colorful and vivid protagonist. In Breaking Bad, however, Kim never appeared, and Lalo was just a name uttered by Saul himself in a scene that seemed empty to us then and now takes on disturbingly fierce meanings ("Lalo heard you?").
