Ciao amici,
viviamo tutti, chi più e chi meno, giorni difficili, di continua paura e preoccupazione, di pochi contatti e di una distanza che diventa sempre più insopportabile ma che è comunque necessaria.
Ho due genitori di una certa età e con qualche acciacco e la mia paura è principalmente per loro.
Sono tre giorni che non svolgo il lavoro d'ufficio mattutino perchè tutto l'ufficio è stato chiuso per la presenza di 4 contagiati da Covid-19.
Per rispetto della privacy non conosco con certezza i nomi di tutti i contagiati ma se le voci che ho sentito hanno un fondo di verità allora con uno dei contagiati mi sono incrociato più di qualche volta nel corridoio dell'ufficio in cui lavoro.
Io sono scrupoloso e attento ma la certezza di essere negativi in questi tempi non la si può mai avere.
Avrei dovuto aspettare il tampone dell'azienda sanitaria locale ma poichè volevo stare tranquillo e soprattutto far stare tranquille le persone a me care e vicine ho deciso di anticipare i tempi e provare i nuovi tamponi rapidi, quelli che ti danno l'esito in circa 15 minuti.
Al costo di circa 60 euro ho preso appuntamento con un infermiera di un'azienda sanitaria privata e oggi è venuta a domicilio a farmi il tampone.
Ed ecco il tampone che ho fatto stasera.
Si chiama Abbott Panbio Covid-19 Ag
Prima di farlo sono andato sul sito del produttore per vedere le percentuali di attendibilità e ho trovato questi dati:
- Sensibilità: 93,3% (98,2% per i campioni con valori Ct ≤33)
- Specificità: 99,4% * (non sono riuscito a trovare l'asterisco nella pagina e per questo lo riporto anche qui)

Non sono un medico o un esperto e quindi sono andato sul web a cercare il significato dei termini di sensibilità e di specificità ed ecco di seguito quello che ho compreso.
La sensibilità è la probabilità in percentuale di individuare correttamente chi è stato contagiato.
Quindi tradotto in parole povere chi si sottopone a questo tampone ed è malato avrà il 6.7% di probabilità di risultare negativo anche se è positivo e ovviamente avrà il 93,3% di probabilità di risultare giustamente positivo.
Nel caso di campioni con valore Ct minore o uguale a 33 il test ha una sensibilità del 98.2%.
Il Ct è un numero che misura la quantità di virus che ha un malato (Cycle threshold).
Quindi più il virus è in quantità alte nel malato e più il numero del Ct sarà un valore piccolo.
La specificità è invece il contrario della sensibilità ed è la probabilità in percentuale del tampone di individuare come negativo chi non è malato.
Quindi se io sono sano avrò una probabilità dello 0,6% di risultare erroneamente positivo.
La mia esperienza
La prima cosa che ho chiesto all'infermiera è stata:
E' molto fastidioso?
La risposta che ho ricevuto è stata:
Più che fastidioso proverà una sensazione simile al solletico.
In realtà non ho riso ma la sensazione è stata di un leggero e breve fastidio che mi ha provocato una leggera lacrimazione.
L'infermiera ti inserisce il tampone solo nel naso e arriva abbastanza in fondo.
Dopo fa toccare la parte terminale del tampone nel foro dell'immagine seguente.
Dopo pochi secondi la barra bianca indicata dalla freccia nell'immagine seguente si colora tutta di viola.
Se l'esito è negativo si colora solo la linea in direzione della lettera C
Se l'esito è positivo si colora anche la linea in direzione della lettera T
Il risultato è arrivato in 15 minuti...
...sono una persona ottimista e positiva ma in questo caso sono felice e sollevato di poter dire (anche se almeno al 93.3%) di essere felicemente NEGATIVO.
My first quick covid-swab

We live who more and who less but all of us rather difficult days, of continuous fear and worry, of few contacts and of a distance that becomes more and more unbearable but that is still necessary.
I have two parents of a certain age and my fear is mainly for them.
I haven't done morning office work for three days because the whole office has been closed due to the presence of 4 people infected by Covid-19.
Out of respect for privacy I don't know for sure the names of all those infected but if the rumors I heard have a background of truth then I crossed paths with one of the infected more than a few times in the corridor of the office where I work.
I am scrupulous and attentive but you can never have the certainty of being negative in these times.
I should have waited for the swab of the local health company but since I wanted to be calm and above all to make the people dear to me and close to me feel calm I decided to anticipate the times and try the new quick covid swabs, the ones that give you the result in about 15 minutes.
At a cost of about 60 euros I made an appointment with a nurse from a private health company and today she came to my home to do the swab.
And here is the swab that I did this afternoon.

Before doing so, I went to the manufacturer's website to see the reliability percentages and found this data:
- Sensitivity: 93.3% (98.2% for samples with Ct values ≤33)
- Specificity: 99.4% *

I am not a doctor or an expert and therefore I went on the web to look for the meaning of the terms of sensitivity and specificity.
Sensitivity is the probability in percentage to correctly identify who is infected.
So translated into simple words who undergoes this swab and is sick will have a 6.7% chance of being negative even if it is positive and of course will have a 93.3% chance of being rightly positive.
In the case of samples with Ct value less than or equal to 33 the test has a sensitivity of 98.2%.
The Ct is a number that measures the amount of virus that a patient has (Cycle threshold).
So the higher the amount of virus in the patient the more the Ct value will be small.
The specificity is the opposite and is the probability in percentage of the swab to identify as negative who is not sick.
So if I am healthy I will have a 0.6% probability of being wrongly positive.
My experience
The first thing I asked the nurse was:
Is it very disturbing?
The answer I received was:
More than disturbing it will feel more like tickling.
Actually I did not laugh but the feeling was of a slight and brief discomfort that caused me a slight tearing.
The nurse put the swab only in your nose and it goes pretty deep.
Then she makes you touch the end of the swab in the hole in the following image.
After a few seconds the white bar indicated by the arrow in the following image turns purple.
If the result is negative, only the line in the direction of the letter C is colored.
If the result is positive, the line in the direction of the letter T is also colored.
The result arrived in 15 minutes...
...I am an optimistic and positive person but in this case I am happy and relieved to be able to say (even if at least 93.3%) that I am happily NEGATIVE.
