A Paper Puppet Workshop

This afternoon I had planned to run a lot of commissions but then, when I got home for lunch, my daughter Chiara ran up to me and said:

Daddy, today there is a puppet show in the square, shall we go see it?

The adult in me would have said:

My love, I have so many things to do and I just can't accompany you! Let's do it next time!

But since inside me there is a child who is constantly fighting to get out of the oppressive adult shell, after two minutes of hesitation I said:

But yes, let's go!

And so today instead of writing a post about Hive or one of the blockchain games I play I want to tell you about my afternoon spent in the company of my daughter Chiara, her friend Letizia and Letizia's mom.

In my neighborhood in the days between September 2 and 5 takes place the Sports Festival.
When I was a child it was one of the best known and loved festivals in my city where sport was the absolute protagonist.
During the sports festival, in fact, there were many sports tournaments in which the whole neighborhood and not only participated: tennis tournaments, volleyball tournaments, soccer tournaments, darts tournaments, bowling tournaments, ....
Every evening there was a musical show and there was always a lot of people.

Today the Sports Festival is a much reduced version of the big festival of the past but it is still a great festival.
The festival is organized by the young people who attend the church in my neighborhood and every afternoon in the square in front of the church there is an event dedicated to children.

In today's afternoon program, in addition to the various sports tournaments, there was also a paper puppet theater and a paper puppet workshop.

The puppet theater show started at 5:00 pm and the children watched the show while sitting on a soft green carpet.
The show lasted about thirty minutes.
At the end of the show all children were invited to take part in the paper puppet workshop.

Kind animators accompanied children and parents in an area set up with tables and chairs.

In the center of each table there was a jar full of colors and each child was given a sheet of paper with the parts of a puppet drawn on it to be colored and only the older children were also given a pair of scissors (scissors without a tip).

Once the coloring was done, the children cut out the 6 parts of the paper puppet (head, torso,
arms and legs).

The tip of a wooden skewer was used to make holes in the various parts of the puppet.

To attach the various parts together the children used sample clips.

And here in the next picture, the paper puppet created by my daughter.

Once the paper puppets were created each child was able to experience the excitement of having their puppet performed in the puppet theater.
The following photo shows the puppets of my daughter, her friend Letizia and another child inside the puppet theater.

A sheet of paper, a few colors, a wooden skewer and 5 sample clips were the ingredients of a plate of creativity, fun and lightheartedness seasoned by the smiles and satisfaction of children happy to have created a paper puppet...

Today I've postponed some commitments and so tomorrow I'll have to work twice as hard but I'm happy because I spent a carefree and fun afternoon with my daughter, simple moments that are priceless and really worthwhile.

Creating a simple and colorful paper puppet was an activity that was enjoyed by all the children who participated in the workshop.
Creating a paper puppet is a great idea that I will reuse and propose to my daughter in the future because it is a great way to stimulate creativity and manual dexterity of children and above all it is a great way to keep them away from TV, smartphones and tablets ...

L'adulto che è in me avrebbe detto:

Ogni sera c'era uno spettacolo musicale e c'era sempre tanta gente.
