Dato che in questo periodo le soluzioni Layer2 per Ethereum stanno facendo notizia ho deciso di provare il network di Polygon per cercare di capire come funziona. Ma partiamo dal principio.

Since in this period the Layer2 solutions for Ethereum are making headlines I decided to try the Polygon network to try to understand how it works. But let's start from the beginning.
Cosa sono le reti Layer 2 ? / What are Layer2 networks?
Non sono certamente un tipo didattico quindi cercherò di spiegarlo alla bene e meglio. Le reti Layer2 sono delle soluzioni che operano su di un protocollo già esistente (Layer1) per poter migliorare le prestazioni ed i problemi di scalabilità che quest'ultimo presenta.
I'm certainly not a didactic guy so I'll try to explain it as best I can. Layer2 networks are solutions that operate on an existing protocol (Layer1) in order to improve performance and scalability problems that the latter presents.
Nel nostro caso il Layer1 è rappresentato da Ethereum, e tutti bene o male conosciamo i problemi che si possono riscontrare utilizzando questo protocollo (soprattutto se parliamo di fee); la rete Layer2 di Polygon Network (ex MATIC) opera proprio sul protocollo di Ethereum e ci permette di swappare i nostri token dalla rete Layer1 alla rete Layer2 potendoli così utilizzare in un sistema decentralizzato sicuramente più veloce e meno oneroso di Ethereum come quello che ci offre Polygon (e non solo).
In our case, the Layer1 is represented by Ethereum, and we all know the problems that can be found using this protocol (especially if we talk about fee); the Layer2 network of Polygon Network (former MATIC) operates on the Ethereum protocol and allows us to swap our tokens from the Layer1 network to the Layer2 network so that we can use them in a decentralized system certainly faster and less expensive than Ethereum like the one Polygon offers (and not only).

How to set up Polygon network?
Utilizzando MetaMask si può settare il network di Polygon aggiungendolo manualmente alle reti del nostro portafoglio. Negli screenshot seguenti potete vedere come eseguire questa procedura ma ci tengo a raccomandarvi di cercare i dati necessari solo da fonti attendibili.
Using MetaMask we can set the Polygon network by manually adding it to our wallet networks. In the following screenshots you can see how to perform this procedure but I want to recommend you to look for the necessary data only from reliable sources.

Apriamo quindi il nostro portafoglio MetaMask ed andiamo nella sezione Settings -> Reti; in questo menù vengono mostrate tutte le reti che abbiamo inserito e/o che erano già presenti di default in MetaMask, selezioniamo quindi AGGIUNGI RETE (1) per poter impostare un nuovo network. Ora dobbiamo inserire tutte le specifiche del network richieste (2), controllate più volte che i dati inseriti siano corretti quindi procediamo cliccando su SALVA. Adesso il network di Polygon sarà disponibile tra le nostre reti e possiamo andarlo a selezionare nel menù a tendina che troviamo nella facciata principale del nostro MetaMask (3).
Let's open our MetaMask portfolio and go to Settings -> Networks section; in this menu are shown all the networks that we have inserted and/or that were already present by default in MetaMask, let's select Add Network (1) to set a new network. Now we have to enter all the required network specifications (2), check several times that the data entered is correct then proceed by clicking on SAVE. Now the Polygon network will be available among our networks and we can go to select it in the dropdown menu that we find in the main side of our MetaMask (3).
Da questo momento il nostro MetaMask sarà collegato alla Mainnet di Polygon e vedremo che il primo token della lista verrà automaticamente cambiato in $MATIC :
From now on our MetaMask will be connected to the Polygon Mainnet and we will see that the first token in the list will be automatically changed to $MATIC :
Ora siamo liberi di girovagare all'interno dell'ecosistema di Polygon e scoprirne le innumerevoli dApp e (per chi utilizza Ethereum) cercare una soluzione ai problemi che la Layer 1 ha dimostrato di non avere ancora risolto.
Now we are free to wander inside the Polygon ecosystem and discover its countless dApps and (for those who use Ethereum) look for a solution to the problems that Layer 1 has shown to have not yet solved.
Ancora sono ai primi passi in questo ecosistema quindi mi astengo da dare consigli sulle dApp ma voglio mostrarvi qualche screenshot di quello che si può trovare su Polygon Network:
I'm still at the first steps in this ecosystem so I refrain from giving advice on dApps but I want to show you some screenshots of what you can find on Polygon Network:

Conclusioni / Conclusions
Polygon Network è facilmente accessibile e facilita altrettanto l'accesso all'ecosistema di Ethereum (e non solo). Ancora non posso darvi certezza della qualità e sicurezza del servizio offerto da questo Layer 2 ma credo che il fatto che stia facendo tanto notizia abbia dei motivi fondati.
Qualcuno di voi ha già confidenza con questo network?
Polygon Network is easily accessible and facilitates the access to the Ethereum ecosystem (and not only). I still can't give you certainty about the quality and security of the service offered by this Layer 2 but I think the fact that it's making so much news has a good reason.
