Esterofili.

Three things you need to know if you come to Albania. Those are the things that immediately catch the eye if you spend some time here.

Surely for the Italians Albania is a stone's throw away. Very close, indeed too close. So to come here, it's a matter of an hour by plane, but they ask for the COVID-19 certificate at the border. So be careful not to find surprises. I remember that an Italian wanted to move to Albania because she didn't want to get the vaccine. Here the vaccine is not yet mandatory, but if you enter they ask you for the certificate. These are the new rules.

However, once in Albania, in my opinion there are three things that immediately catch the eye.

First, you need to know that Albania is a very traditional country. Albanians love their traditions, weddings have their traditions, but also funerals that last at least a week. In Albania, folk songs that were sung 100 years ago (eh no, they haven't ended up in museums yet) are still sung and danced when weddings are organized. It is not a rare thing to see people dressed in folkloric clothes as well, especially those people who live in the countryside of the far north or far south. Folklore dresses are still used, sometimes in weddings, with all the peculiarities. Tradition is the first thing. Then, I want to be honest. Once it was also the welcome as part of one's Albanian tradition, but now this seems to me quite a rare thing. The Albanians have lost this welcome in their own home. They don't invite that much for dinner or lunch. It was used once, yes, but not anymore. There is a lot of interest and too little real value around, and hospitality. As an Albanian, I no longer play it too safe on this thing, when others talk about this value, as part of our tradition.

Second thing I would put a sentence: pay the bill. If you go to a bar or restaurant with an Albanian, be prepared to be a guest, to pay you. The concept everyone with their own pocket does not exist, very rare. If you don't do this they are offended. It doesn't matter if you are two or three, pay only one. Then I also often see them arguing about this, and honestly I laugh. In short, I don't know why but that's the way it is. But watch out where you go because if they see that you are foreigners they will most likely try to cheat in some way.

Esterophiles. Albanians are xenophiles. It can also be seen from the names that many copies give to their children. Foreign names. The thing also from the brands they use in the shops, the restaurants often have Italian names, but also the clothes shops. Here I stop, as you will find many Italian brands, signed but which are not signed at all. It is something that is used more, just for advertising, then it is true, but also not. The price obviously does not say anything about the brand because it costs too much and is not signed at all. It depends.

Albania is a young country. It has been estimated to have had economic growth there 4 percent this year, and that's a pretty good thing. They've done pretty well with the outbreak, and the numbers aren't all that alarming. The mask hardly fits at all. Perhaps it will be due to the geographical position, but we can consider ourselves lucky enough so far with Covid.
