Planting trees and protecting wildlife habitat

Trees play a significant role in reducing erosion and moderating the climate. They remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and store large quantities of carbon in their tissues. Trees and forests provide a habitat for many species of animals and plants. Tropical rainforests are among the most biodiverse habitats in the world. Trees provide shade and shelter, timber for construction, fuel for cooking and heating, and fruit for food as well as having many other uses.

But because of the illegal actions carried out by many irresponsible people. They cut down large numbers of trees so that there is no longer a role as a buffer for erosion, loss of animal habitat and increased heat due to the large number of forest trees being cut down illegally.

As has happened in some areas in our area, recently the heat has increased, and there is frequent conflict between animals and humans, such as elephants. They descended into the settlements and plantations of residents, destroying crops and causing casualties due to the wild elephants running amok.

This happens because most of the wildlife habitat has been destroyed and the area where they feed is reduced., as a result of tree cutting and massive forest destruction.

To minimize conflicts between wild animals (especially elephants), several institutions, natural resource conservation agencies, environmental organizations, environmental activists and local governments carry out a movement to plant millions of trees in the border area between settlements and wildlife habitats.

This tree planting coincided with the commemoration of World Elephant Day, last August 12. Me and several other friends also participated in the action. We as environmental and forestry activists are often involved in activities like this, in order to keep nature sustainable.

As I said earlier, the elephants descended into the settlements, into the people's agricultural land and damaged a large number of community plantations that had been planted for years. So sometimes the wild elephants are also killed by irresponsible people, on the grounds that their plantation lands have been destroyed by elephants.

Basically, most people don't realize that they have already destroyed the habitat of elephants and other wildlife, cutting down trees continuously, and that is the impact of the illegal actions they do.

We and several other institutions, as well as local governments, planted millions of trees to coincide with world elephant day, we planted trees and wood that elephants don't like, such as citrus and various other types of trees.

We also socialized to residents to plant more plants that elephants don't like but can also be a source of income for residents, such as citrus, star fruit and coffee.

Previously, most of their planters planted oil palm, and the plant was very favored by the big animals, so that the oil palm plantations were damaged by elephants and caused great losses for residents, especially those who have plantations that are directly adjacent to wildlife habitat.

In addition to planting trees, we also socialized to the residents who were also present at the event, to get to know more about elephants, not to think of them as destructive animals. Because they were created to have their own role in the forest. Calling on everyone to punish whoever kills the elephant. Elephants are unique animals and forest heritage for us to keep so that it will not become a mere fairy tale in the future.

This is a form of our love as environmental activists to continue to protect nature and all the diversity in it.

This activity took place from 12 to 13 August, coinciding with the commemoration of world elephant day.

That's it for now. thank you and
