GREEN GROWS THE RASHERS

Green colour meaning

The well-known poet, Robert Burns, wrote the song, Green Grow the Rashers. What he meant was that we should all grab our pleasures where we can and when we can and that there is nothing wrong with this attitude. Well perhaps we might consider some restraint on occasion, but the idea of freedom to choose and do is surely a good thing.

The colour green leads us down a huge walk of discovery into the meaning of the word green. For example, I am totally green with jealousy over the essay on green that I just read. It is filled with such interesting articles and pictures.

At the same time, the building across from our house is a green building, as the materials were obtained from natural, renewable sources that have been obtained locally to reduce the energy costs of transportation. Therefore recognised as a green building. Of course green is simply a colour, a great colour of many tones used to identify with certain events and places and lovely memories.

So far green is good. Greens are said to be very healthy for us and I’m sure nearly everyone’s parents or grandparents have said those words, “eat your greens”. I have spent many seasons trying to grow greens and not because I have been ordered to, but because I simply love going outside and collecting all types of greens and herbs for meals.

However, is there a flip side of that green coin, green from oxidization? Yes! I would say.

How about the green worms, grasshoppers and aphids that reduce me to being a heap of vengeful ideas with thoughts of retribution. That I know for a fact that, that is one losing battle that I simply cannot win, and the sight of those poor plants having been destroyed almost overnight is just my Achilles heel. Yet, they too are God’s creatures and we aught to use the green of our Chakra, the heart Chakra, and love them as well. Green is calming and relaxing so sit back and enjoy a cup of healthy green tea and do as "Rabbie" Burns says and grab our pleasures where we can.
