Theories on Lunacia

Information correct as of 29 August 2021

Okay, this post is gonna be a little different from usual, so please put on your tinfoil hats before we begin.

One of the things I am most interested about in games is the lore behind it, especially the potential real life influences behind it and how it may influence the game. In fact, my very first piece on Axie Buzz was on the gorgeous leek we received in the AMA; you can read about it here.

So naturally, I wanted to also find out more about the lore in Axie Infinity and started doing research into it.

One interesting thing I noticed is that there are 7 types of Mystic Statues available currently (Sky Mavis may add more in the future, never say never).

Notice anything interesting among the statues? Maybe scroll through them again; I'll wait.

The statues all allows for critical strikes when attacking Chimera, and there are 5 Chimera classes named here. That's right, 5. And everyone knows that there are 6 classes in Axie Infinity right? (minus the secret classes).

So, WHY ARE THERE 2 STATUES DEDICATED TO CRITICAL STRIKES ON REPTILE CHIMERA?

My theory is this: ITS NECESSARY. There is a particular reptile after all, that is linked to both statues...

From the Nægling page on Wikipedia:

Næġling is the name of one of the swords used by Beowulf in the Anglo-Saxon epic poem of Beowulf...However, the sword does not survive Beowulf's final encounter with the dragon, snapping in two—not because of the dragon's strength, but because of the hero's strength...

"But there are no dragons in Lunacia!"

...are you sure?

On the first of April 2018, Axie Infinity published this.

Quoting from the article:

...scientists claimed that Dragons, fantasy creatures were only mentioned in old fairy tales — whose genes are now able to be infused into Axie’s DNA, which can make Axies to evolve to a whole new level of existence — the enormous Axagon.

"But it was an April Fool's article!".

You're right. It was. And that is why we do not (currently) have a dragon Axie class. However, that does not really discount that dragons are not present in Lunacia, doesn't it?

After all, you have to admit that there are also quite a lot of ruins in Lunacia, which may have been caused by...I don't know...something that requires a little extra help to defeat?

Stay with me a second here. further down the same April Fools' article is this:

But the experiments went wrong (as always).

Which led to the creation of the (fake) secret class. Now, what if the scientists kept experimenting and also made MORE mistakes? What if they did used the dragon's DNA to experiment with Chimeras next? And as the experiments went wrong ('as always' like the article states) extra firepower is needed to take down these enormous reptiles. Hence not just one, but two statues.

In all seriousness, it may just be a slight oversight on Sky Mavis's part. But what if its not? XD
