Hail to the Hive!
Our little narrowboat is still broken down and we aren’t going anywhere so I went for a walk this afternoon to clear my head and as I was wandering through the park next to the canal I saw an interesting looking building through the trees and over the River Anker.
Worth a bit of investigation Me thinks.
After finding a bridge over the river I soon located the entrance, or hoped so.
Once inside the grounds the old building loomed in front of me, dark and imposing against the summer sky.
The site was founded in the 9th century but the main church building dates back to the 12th century. Still bloody old and I am the only one about and it feels creepy to me.
An impressive looking building but it leaves me feeling dark and sad and I do not find it an uplifting experience close up and I am beginning to think I prefer viewing old religious buildings from a distance.
Yup it’s giving me the creeps.
Seems like people live in the old gate house. Rather them than me.
I am starting to think I want to get back to the boat and get a beer now.
And now I’ve wandered into the underground hotel or the graveyard as it’s better known as. Right I am out of here, being the only living person on property isn’t as good of a feeling as it should be!
