Bridge 79 - Oxford Canal - Monomad Challenge

Hail to the Hive!

Continuing my wanderings in the local vicinty of wherever we are moored I took a wander down and then off the tow path to see what was around.

As usual I gravitated towards one of the bridges spanning the canal and this one connected a public 'Bridleway' with gates either side.

A Bridleway is a pathway for people to ride horses on or was originally set up to do so. I saw a bunch of cyclists but nobody on horseback but that doesn't mean that it doesn't get used for that as we have seen people from time to time crossing bridges on horses or in the fields adjacent to the canals.

You do find that a lot of countryside walkways, bridleways and national cycle routes all merge with the canals so just by being on a narrowboat we often find ourselves moored for the day or night right in the middle of points of interest to people getting away from it all.

Just have to remember to shut the gate behind you!

So that was bridge 79 on the Oxford canal. I do love these little strolls after a days cruising on the boat!
