Загалом це пам'ятник Катерині II та її сподвижникам — Хосе де Рібасу, Францу де Воллану, Григорію Потьомкіну та Платону Зубову. Всі ці люди причетні до того, що в квітучих акаціях з'явилось місто біля Чорного моря – красуня Одеса. Вона повстала на руїнах греко-татарського Хаджибея в 1794 році. Чотири скульптури сподвижників імператриці зберігались у краєзнавчому музеї, а від статуї самої Катерини II залишилася тільки голова. На місці засновників встановили скульптуру Карлу Марксу, котра протрималась там не дуже довго. Знов скульптура постала на своє почесне місце у 2007 році. Більшість фрагментів є оригінальними, тобто це ті деталі, котрі були в першому варіанті. Його неодноразово намагались перенести в інше місце, проте у квітні 2019 року Верховний суд України поставив остаточну крапку, відхиливши вимогу громадських про перенесення пам'ятника Засновникам Одеси. Добре це чи погано я не знаю, але пам'ятник гарний і його видно здалеку :) >Of course, scandals and lawsuits broke out around this monument.
