(D) Ich habe nicht schlecht gestaunt, als ich beim Zusammentragen der Infos für diesen Post auf Wikipedia und anderen Touristen-Seiten erfahren habe, dass der Placa de España in Sevilla (Spanien) erst 1929 anlässlich einer iberoamerikanischen Ausstellung erbaut wurde. Auch da mir sein Baustil sehr an andere historische Bauten wie der Catedral de Santa María de la Sede (Bau Jahre 1401-1519) oder dem Königspalast Real Alcázar (Bau ab Jahr 928) erinnerte. Das im Halbkreis geschwungene Hauptgebäude umrandet den eigentlichen Platz, und soll eine Umarmung der südamerikanischen Kolonien durch Spanien (Warum denkt der/die/das weisse Mensch, dass alles ihm gehört?) symbolisieren. Auch ist die Öffnung des Halbkreises in Richtung Fluss Guadalquivir ausgerichtet, was als Parabel für den Weg Richtung Amerika gilt. Bei den Verzierungen hat der Architekt Aníbal González Álvarez-Ossorio nicht gespart. Klinker, Marmor und Keramiken verleihen dem Gebäude eine Mischung aus Barockem und Renaissance. Überall finden sich Mosaike, Azulejos und aufwendige Malereien an den Wänden.

(ENG) I was quite astonished to learn, while gathering information for this post on Wikipedia and other tourist sites, that the Placa de España in Seville (Spain) was only built in 1929 on the occasion of an Ibero-American exhibition. Also because its architectural style reminded me very much of other historical buildings such as the Catedral de Santa María de la Sede (construction years 1401-1519) or the Royal Palace Real Alcázar (construction from year 928). The main building, curved in a semicircle, surrounds the actual square, and is meant to symbolise an embrace of the South American colonies by Spain (Why does the white man think that everything belongs to him?). Also, the opening of the semicircle is oriented towards the Guadalquivir River, which is considered a parable for the road towards America. Architect Aníbal González Álvarez-Ossorio did not skimp on the ornamentation. Clinker bricks, marble and ceramics give the building a mixture of Baroque and Renaissance. Mosaics, azulejos and elaborate paintings are everywhere on the walls.

(ESP) Me quedé bastante asombrado al enterarme, mientras recopilaba información para este post en Wikipedia y otras webs turísticas, de que la Placa de España de Sevilla (España) no se construyó hasta 1929 con motivo de una exposición iberoamericana. También porque su estilo arquitectónico me recordaba mucho a otros edificios históricos como la Catedral de Santa María de la Sede (años de construcción 1401-1519) o el Palacio Real Real Alcázar (construcción del año 928). El edificio principal, curvado en semicírculo, rodea la plaza actual, y pretende simbolizar el abrazo de España a las colonias sudamericanas (¿Por qué el hombre blanco cree que todo le pertenece?). Además, la apertura del semicírculo está orientada hacia el río Guadalquivir, que se considera una parábola del camino hacia América. El arquitecto Aníbal González Álvarez-Ossorio no escatimó en ornamentación. Ladrillos de clinker, mármol y cerámica confieren al edificio una mezcla de barroco y renacimiento. Mosaicos, azulejos y elaboradas pinturas pueblan las paredes.
