Doughnut

This is my entry for the #monomad challenge.

Many foods have become global, meaning they are known and found in many regions of the world. One of them is the donut (doughnut), the ring-shaped snack. It's hard to believe that there is a country that doesn't know fried dough with leavened, round shape with a hole in the middle. The origins of donuts may go back to around the middle of the 18th century, and the first mention of donuts may be in the early 19th century (source), but such food is found in a wide variety of types and names in many regions of the world (source).

In my place, the modern and most popular donuts today have simpler predecessors, without the potato mixture, and are usually not coated in chocolate, powdered sugar, or anything like that, but simply glazed with sugar water. The traditional donuts are called in our local language "Mok Gleung" which means bracelet mold. Because it's large, so it's not a ring but a bracelet, because bracelets are bigger and are worn on the wrist, or in our place, it's also worn on the ankle.

When you look at a donut on the kitchen table, and meanwhile, the gentle morning sunlight pours in through the window, then it is perfectly natural, if you then think of exposing the donut to that sunlight, to then be able to see it as something delicious, in black and white.

Another delicious type of snack that I found on the same table is what is called "Agar-agar" or "Agar". It is very popular in our region, and can be counted as one of the world's foods. It's a jelly-like substance obtained from red algae (source). It is considered a plant-based gelatin because it is derived from seaweed, and can be an alternative menu for vegans. It's usually a dessert, and the stomach feels very good after eating it, especially when it's chocolate flavored, and it looks very tempting when viewed in black and white images.
