The Kentucky State Fair is currently going on here in Louisville and this past Saturday I stopped by to do a little shooting. I posted some color photos from that visit a few days ago but I saved my favorites for B&W.
Our adversaries from last year were well represented at the fair, with local and state police and the military all having a good bit of space devoted to them.
Heavy-handed patriotism aside, their displays were interesting. Lots of historical vehicles, weapons, and other memorabilia, along with a few reenactors.
I'd set out to shoot people but the vehicles distracted me for a while. I quickly made up for lost time once I finally pulled myself away.
Handmade dog, cat, and horse treats, BOGO sales on CBD, fudge, the state fair offered a mélange of ways to spend your USD.
Most of the fun stuff was outside so eventually I left the air conditioning behind to see who was out playing in the August sun.
The heat index was flirting with triple digits that day but there were still plenty of people out and about. More than a few were taking it easy in the heat though.
While I was wandering about I experimented with letting the camera hang from the neck strap and holding down the button as people walked past. Most turned out about as well as you would expect, mostly sky and the tops of peoples' heads but I still got a few that were fun.
Of course the bane of all parents, the goldfish game was there!
No fair would be complete without some version of the balloon game...
...or carnies shilling stuff.
Lots of things with which to beat the heat...
...and people selling grilled meat.
I took several hundred shots while I was there so you'll probably see a few more from the fair before it ends this weekend. To be fair, this is quite enough for one day though 😎
