A colleague called me into his studio to test a medieval steel mesh with our model Lili. We had been with her for a few minutes when there was a knock on the door and it turned out to be the fumigation technicians.
In Cuba there are strong campaigns for the elimination of the Aedes Aegypti mosquito, carrier of dengue, Zika, yellow fever and many other diseases, and when a case of disease transmitted by this insect is detected in a residential area, several specialists are deployed with a kind of bazooka that throws a lot of smoke to eliminate the vector, along with everything else. The law requires that the inhabitants of the houses where the fumigation has been carried out wait at least 30 minutes outside the house for the atomized poison to act. Needless to say, the entire interior must then be aired out and many surfaces must be cleaned to remove odors and so forth. In our case, we waited a little less, went into the studio with zero visibility, opened windows, put fans on, and went back outside. We waited another few more minutes, and went back inside to continue the session. The funny thing about this story is that we only noticed the smoke still lingering in the room when we took the first photo. A halo surrounded our model and sort of added a little drama to the scenes, with some halos of light when we put a flash behind Lili. That's how the photos turned out, I guess it was convenient to spray some smoke after all.
Un colega me llamó para su estudio para probar una malla de acero medieval con nuestra modelo Lili. Llevábamos unos minutos con ella en esos menesteres, cuando tocan a la puerta y resulta ser que eran los técnicos de fumigación.
En Cuba se realizan fuertes campañas para la eliminación del mosquito Aedes Aegypti, portador del dengue, el Zika, fiebre amarilla y muchas otras enfermedades, y cuando se detecta algún caso de enfermedad transmitida por este insecto en zona residencial, se despliegan varios especialistas con una especie de bazookas que lanza mucho humo para eliminar al vector, junto con todo lo demás. La ley exige que los moradores de las viviendas donde se haya fumigado esperen por lo menos 30 minutos fuera de la casa, para que el veneno atomizado actúe. De más está decir que luego hay que airear todo el interior y limpiar muchas superficies para eliminar los olores y demás. En nuestro caso, esperamos un poco menos, entramos en el estudio con visibilidad cero, abrimos ventanas, pusimos ventiladores y volvimos a salir. Esperamos otros minutos más, y entramos para continuar con la sesión. Lo curioso de esta historia es que sólo notamos el humo que aún permanecía en el local cuando hicimos la primera foto. Un halo rodeaba a nuestra modelo y de cierta manera añadía un poco de drama a las escenas, con algunos halos de luz cuando pusimos un flash detrás de Lili. Así quedaron las fotos, creo que nos convino fumigar, después de todo.
