A trip to the past|| Un viaje al pasado
It is very beneficial to get out of the routine, and go back to places where we have not been for a long time. Some things will remain the same, others will not. You may ask yourself: "Was that there the last time I came?" subjectively you can assess whether things are better or worse. There will be new people, others will be the same and remain there, and others are simply gone.
However, the place may give you the illusion that time has stopped there. The cooking methods used not only the last time you were there, but the one used many years ago, basic and rudimentary. The objects, the pots, the utensils are painted by the smoke and the charcoal, and also surely the hands of those who handle them (and who knows how many other places on their bodies).
The mills on a table are faithful public servants of the owners of the house. They don't know what they will get each day. But there they stand, firm. What will come today? A tender corn to make cachapas? A cooked corn for some flaming arepas? Or a cariaco corn to make a good food? Of course, they distribute the work and do not mix it. One will be in charge of the aforementioned, and another will be in charge of the famous coffee. One is only in charge of receiving the roasted beans and pulverizing them. There they stand, waiting for the energetic arm of a volunteer to make it turn and work.
The trapiche will wait for the sugar canes. Its surroundings make it look like it's had work recently. It can accurately extract the juice from this unique plant, giving the homeowners a delicious liquid that can be used in a variety of ways.
The children will use the traditional games to distract and share. The environment is free of sounds from radios and televisions. Cell phones are mostly without signal. Perhaps the same charcoal taken from the place where they cooked the day before can be used to draw on the floor the challenge they will have this day.
The past is still the present in places like this. They remind you of the basic things you need to live. How many things am I able to do without and still live?

Es muy beneficioso salir de la rutina, y volver a sitios en los que teníamos tiempo sin estar. Algunas cosas permanecerán igual, otras no. Puede que te preguntes: "¿Estaba eso ahí la última vez que vine?" Subjetivamente se puede evaluar si las cosas están mejor o peor. Habrán personas nuevas, otras serán las mismas y permanecen allí, y otros sencillamente se han ido.
Sin embargo, el lugar puede que te de la ilusión que el tiempo se ha detenido allí. Se usan los métodos para cocinar que se usaban no solamente la última vez que estuviste, sino el que se empleaba hace muchos años atrás, básicos y rudimentarios. Los objetos, las ollas, los utensilios son pintados por el humo y el carbón, y también de seguro las manitos de quien los maneja (y quien sabe cuantos lugares más de su cuerpo).
Los molinos en una mesa son fieles servidores públicos de los dueños de casa. No saben qué les tocará cada día. Pero allí están, firmes. ¿Qué vendrá hoy? ¿Un maíz tierno para hacer cachapas? ¿Un maíz cocinado para unas flamantes arepas? ¿O un maíz cariaco para hacer un buen alimento? Eso sí, ellos se distribuyen el trabajo y no lo mezclan. Uno se encargará de lo antes mencionado, y otro se encargará del famoso café. Uno sólo es el encargado de recibir los granos tostados y pulverizarlos. Allí están firmes, esperando que el enérgico brazo de un voluntario lo haga girar y trabajar.
El trapiche esperará por las cañas de azúcar. Sus alrededores hacen ver que tuvo trabajo recientemente. De forma certera puede sacar el jugo de ésta singular planta, regalándole a los dueños de casa un delicioso líquido que puede usar de diversas formas.
Los niños usarán los juegos tradicionales para distraerse y compartir. El ambiente está libre de sonidos de radios y televisores. Los celulares quedan mayormente sin señal. Quizás el mismo carbón tomado del lugar donde se cocinó el día anterior puede servir para dibujar en el piso el reto que tendrán en éste día.
El pasado sigue siendo el presente en lugares como éste. Te hacen recordar las cosas básicas que se necesitan para vivir. ¿De cuántas cosas soy capaz de prescindir y seguir viviendo?
