Hello my loving Asean Hive community
Today I made a sweet Myanmar snack. This sweet Myanmar snack is called Floating Sweet Rice Ball. In Myanmar, it is called ‘Mont lone yay baw’. Floating Sweet Rice Ball is one of my favorite Myanmar snacks. I read in my book that there is a Chinese food similar to Myanmar Floating Sweet Rice Ball. I do not know what the Floating Sweet Rice Ball is called in China. Myanmar Floating Sweet Rice Ball is associated with a festival in Myanmar. Today I am going to talk about how to make Myanmar Floating Sweet Rice Ball and the festival associated with that snack.

Let me first talk about the festival. Myanmar new year is celebrated every year in April. Myanmar new year festival is also known as water festival. On festival days, Myanmar people celebrate the New Year by playing in the water with each other. On Myanmar new year festival, some people donate snacks. Floating Sweet Rice Ball is mainly used by Myanmar people when donating snacks in water festival. Almost all Myanmar people also like Floating Sweet Rice Ball. Eating Myanmar Floating Sweet Rice Ball while playing in the water is also very cool. Last year, due to the Covid situation, Myanmar could not celebrate the New Year. If the Myanmar new year festival is celebrate in coming April, I will share it again. Now I will share how to make Floating Sweet Rice Ball or Mont lone yay baw.

I put glutinous rice flour in a bowl. Then I added a little water and mixed it by hand. You need to wash your hands thoroughly to mix. You do not need to add a lot of water to make the mix and you need to be careful not to make it too soft. For glutinous rice flour, I use double bear brand.

I cut Jaggery into small pieces with scissors. If you want to eat Myanmar Floating Sweet Rice Ball, you should cut Jaggery big. Because I have more glutinous rice flour than I need, I split it up into smaller portion. Now I'm ready to make Myanmar Floating Sweet Rice Ball or Mont lone yay baw.

I put a Jaggery in the middle of the glutinous rice flour and made a ball. I made a lot of balls that way. Some use chili instead of jaggery for jokes.

I heated the water in a pot. When the water boils, I add all the rice balls and boil. When you first put it in the water, you can see that the rice balls are at the bottom of the water. Once the rice balls are floating on the water, the rice balls can be removed from the water.

Now I have a very cute and delicious Floating Sweet Rice Ball. I grated some coconuts to pair with Mont lone yay baw. Floating Sweet Rice Ball (Mont lone yay baw) does not require a lot of ingredients and is easy to make. 🍇
