from a person is born, grows into a child, then becomes an adult, until dies, a person will do a lot of traditional processions. So, in this post I will share about customs for a baby who is just about to set foot on the ground for the first time. The name is Tedak Siten.

DIFFERENT TYPES IN EVERY REGION

Although with the same intent, the traditional tedak siten procession in each region will have slight differences. What is always the same is the ladder made of sugarcane stalks and the steps made of green bananas. Almost all areas have the same thing here, the steps made of green bananas are seven.

DIFFERENT TYPES OF FOOD

Like other traditional events, Tedak Siten also has special foods that must be provided during the traditional procession. if in other areas there are those who use food named Dodol/Jenang as a mandatory food for Tedak Siten.

Generally we provide Candil porridge. a food consisting of a mixture of glutinous rice flour, brown sugar and coconut milk. the neighbors come and helps with very pleasant. They came to help make the Candil porridge. After all the candil porridge is available, we then distribute it to the neighbors.

MEANING OF TEDAK SITEN

Tedak which means down and Siten which means land/earth. Tedak Siten is a traditional ceremony aimed at babies who first step on earth, or babies who are starting to learn to walk. Usually carried out when the baby is seven or eight months old.

In addition is provided with stairs made of sugarcane and green bananas as I have mentioned above, various offerings are also provided here. Other unique things provided include: chicken cages, and several items that the baby will choose later, such as: holy books, rice, sewing tools, money, and others. when I asked the older ones what the purpose of providing these beavers was... it is said that the first thing the baby chooses will become his passion later when the baby grows up.

Before that, the baby must climb the sugar cane ladder with the guidance by the mother.

The photos that I have attached are the traditional Tedak Siten procession belonging to my nephew Rendra. when crawling to get the thing he wanted, Rendra's focus was directly on a gold bracelet that belonged to his mother.

So, will Rendra be ...the boss of the gold shop in the future? Hehehe. I hope whatever you choose, you will still be an adorable baby who grows up to be a good and useful human being,Rendra!.
