Hello friends! Yesterday morning we saw the gardener put a fishing net in the canal. Before this he didnโ€™t come to work for a week. When he came back for his work, he went fishing before he started to work. I thought, maybe he run out money to buy food. He is a poor man like us.

He works a lot for the landlord, cuts grass, cleans the house, takes care of the vegetable garden, take cares of the two sheep, the chickens and other things, but the landlord does not respect him. We often hear the landlord shout at him when the landlord has company and also when there are no no other people around.

I told my husband if I were him, I donโ€™t work for a boss like that. But I understand about him, maybe it's difficult to find a new job and because he is a poor, this job is his life. I don't know how much his salary is, but I know from friends the lowest work is 100$ to $150 USD per month here in Suriname.

I wonder because everything here is very expensive like that, how can people make a life for themselves? In Cambodia, the lowest salary is $150 to $300 per month, about $5 to $10 per day, and most of the things are so much cheaper than here. I feel sympathy for him so much, so sometimes I share my food, snacks, and I buy some drinks for him too.

I used to say to my husband, I want to give him some money to buy some food, but my husband said donโ€™t do that because it might make him feel uneasy or make problem with the landlord. Itโ€™s better to give delicious homemade food to him. My husband also said, when we leave here we will give him our bicycle for free and anything we can't take with us.

He caught fish from his net in the evening. His name is Bubu. He does not have a wife or kids. He lives alone in a small house.

He told me the fish's name but I forgot it already. He does not speak the Dutch language well, but he speaks Sranang, some people call it taki-taki. He knows a little English but not a lot. When I talk with him, I speak English and use my hands too.

I remember this fish, he told me its name is Kwie-Kwie. The landlord woman used to tell me this fish is so tasty and the most expensive here.

I learned its name is Hoplosternum Littorale or catfish. When my two daughters and I visit him, he was catching fish and my husband was making fried rice for dinner. After he finished fishing we gave him a big box of fried rice.

I've written about my feelings in this post, and I wanted to share a little about what I see in my life. All countries have rich people and poor people. Most rich people do not have respect for the poor people. It is like this in my country also. So when I see and hear the landlord shout at him, it reminds of my life before. I just wonder, why do so many rich people not respect poor people? We are the same people.

Poor people do everything so the rich people can have better lives, but rich people do not work low-paying jobs for other rich people, so they need to respect poor people. I want to help him more but my family is poor too. We have a family full of love, so what we can do for him is to share some food with him sometimes. But we can't do it often like before because now it's difficult to find ingredients. Someday we eat just a little bit of food too so that we have something for the next day.

This picture is from the evening at 7:19 pm. Monkey-B and me walked outside to look at the moon. We enjoyed the view of the beautiful moon and talked on the road.
