The Yellow Holy Day

This month is another busy for Balinese people. One of the holy day we celebrated is called Kuningan Day which literary mean the yellow day. The yellow day is a day where the Balinese pray to God and ancestors for safety and prosperity.

The Kuningan Day was quite a busy day for my family. My wife prepared numerous offerings since we would go to different temples.

The offerings made of flowers, coconut leaves, cakes and fruits.

Another basket of offerings.

Besides the offerings she also followed the tradititon of cooking yellow rice. The yellow day become more impactful when we prepared yellow rice for offerings and our consumption.

Yellow rice, slices of cucumber, spicy shredded chickens and mung bean sprout was the menu for the yellow day. It was so delicious!

Next, my family and I went three temples on the Kuningan day. The first two temples were the temples located in our village. In every village, at least there are four temples.

When we arrived in the first temple, there were some locals who were praying. The praying was not lead by priest, since this was only a small temple. In fact, all the temples we visited that day was not lead any priest. This made the praying did not require a lot of time compared to praying in a big group.

Early morning, not so busy at the temple.

People pray by themselves, not lead by priest.

Before noon, we have finished praying in all three temples. It was a very blazing hot day when we finished. Then we went home to eat yellow rice again for lunch😋.
