Celebrating The Holiday of Tumpek Landep

Once in every 210 days, the Balinese celebrate a unique Holy day called Tumpek Landep or the holy day of sharpness. On this day, the people make offerings for anything that made of iron. In the past, people made blessing ceremony for any weapon such as dagger, or spears.

These daggers or spears were usually enchanted that religious ceremony is needed to "strengthen" these enchanted weapon. The spiritual enchantment is called Pasupati. After being enchanted, the weapons were believed to have renewed its magical power.

That's in the past!

Preparing the incense.

Nowadays, not many people own dagger or spears. I don't think I need it as for now. But still, people make a blessing for their tools which made of iron, anything that can help improve life that made of iron. This include, knifes, motor cycles, cars, or computers. Just anything that help us in our daily work.

All our bicycles.

All park near each other, decorated with offerings made of coconut leaves.

My wife has made some offerings made of coconut leaves, flowers, and fruits for the holiday. We had parked all cycles, motor cycle, and car together near each other at the same place. My wife put the offerings on them and then she lit some incense. She also put offerings nearby my pc in my room.

The offerings.

She also put an offerings near my PC.

Then, she, as many other Balinese on the island did that day, prayed to God to bless all the tools so they can be used to help us to improve our life.

So, that's how I give meaning to this holy day.
