It’s the durian season!

Durian season in Malaysia is a time of excitement for locals and adventurous tourists alike. As I wandered through the bustling streets, the unmistakable aroma of durian filled the air, leading me to a colorful roadside stall piled high with the spiky fruits.

This is a great day to treat myself to this infamous "King of Fruits". Something cheap will do. 20 Malaysian Ringgit which is about 3-4USD for one.

The vendor skillfully cracked open a durian and presented me with a plump, yellow segment nestled in its thorny shell.

The creamy flesh melted on my tongue, releasing a complex burst of flavors. Sweet yet savory, with hints of caramel and a subtle nuttiness. The texture was smooth and custard-like, with fibrous strands adding an interesting dimension to each mouthful.

Those who live it would devoured their portions with obvious relish, while the uninitiated westerners would wrinkled their noses at the pungent aroma. It's clear why durian is such a polarizing fruit!

For those brave enough to try it, durian offers a unique culinary experience that's quintessentially Malaysian. Whether you end up loving it or not, tasting durian is an adventure for the senses and a must-try when visiting Malaysia during durian season.
