The Chinese New Year Bazaar

Chinese New Year is around the corner. Lots and lots of festive activities. There is one place to visit here in Miri. There is the Chinese New Year bazaar. In this bazaar, you'll find all sorts of delicious Sarawakian food. Lanterns. Lots and lots of people too. Chinese New Year is a huge celebration here in Miri. This coming Saturday night when the clock hits 12 midnight, fireworks are going to light up the sky. Usually lights up the skies for half and hour.

Lanterns

Lots and lots of lanterns hang high above. In preparation of the Chinese New Year to celebrate the year of the rabbit, the little calm rabbit. In the chinese lunar calendar, there are twelves animals that take turns.

Huge crowds

Lots and lots of people gather around here to buy food. Lots and lots. It's great to see this bazaar back. It has been two years since the lockdown and things are starting to get normal again. Grateful for that.

Pineapple anyone?

Lots and lots of pineapples. These are from the farms here in Sarawak.

It's been a while since I last saw such big crowds. It's already been a while. Time flies.

There are some lion dance performance as well as some stage performances

Everyone just sat there chilling. Family day. There were lots of police around just to get things organized in order.

The year of the rabbit 2023

This is where everyone takes a photo just to check in this year. This is not a permanent display. In a few more days, all these would be taken down.

I guess this year is hopefully going to be a great year. The city is going to become pretty quiet next week when Chinese New Year comes. Many shop owners are going to rest for those couple of days.
