Veal Veng, Cambodia ⛰️ Cheap Land, Natural Beauty, And Our Potential Future Home 🛺

When the family and I reunite in Cambodia, we will be starting a new life from scratch, and our considering Veal Veng as our new home.

Home Is Where The Tuk-Tuk Is 🛺

Our return to Cambodia before 2022 is certain, although it's likely I won't be able to join my family due to COVID-19 visa restrictions. This hasn't stopped us from trying plan our future in Cambodia, and since we sold our business and have no ties to our former town, Kampot, we are interested in settling down near the Thai border in an up and coming area known as Veal Veng.

When we stop and think as family about the happiest we've ever been, it has been behind the wheel of our tuk-tuk seeing new places, new people, camping, and making picnics all along the way. After living at altitude in Quito, Ecuador, we got used to cooler temps, and now would like to live at altitude in Cambodia to have milder weather and a different topography than the rice fields we are used to.

Tatai Isn't Meant To Be 🤷‍♂️

We've been keeping our ears open and doing a lot of research for cheap Cambodian land during the three years we've been stranded abroad in Suriname. We have previously fallen in love with Tatai Waterfall and the surrounding area, but it's already a popular tourist destination for Cambodians, and that means too expensive for us.

Parts of the above music video were filmed on a tuk-tuk trip to Tatai Waterfalls that my family and I arranged for SD Holis and his partner. There were 6 of us plus camping gear and food for three days jammed in that tuk-tuk for a 500km roundtrip from Kampot to Tatai. It was one of the funnest adventures we've ever done, and that's what brings me to Veal Veng.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👧 Veal Veng, Future Home?

On the map I shared above, Tatai is a few mountain valleys south of Veal Veng. Going northwest of Tatai into the frontier of Veal Veng means cheap land, but also similar features like Tatai that we love so much. A major paved road has just been finished that links the area to Thailand, and rumor is this area will break away from Pursat Province in the coming years, and become its own province.

These random Veal Veng YouTube videos are not mine, but they are the ones I've been watching to get a feel for the area. Thmor Da Waterfall and 1,500 Mountain are the big local attractions, but as of now, we can purchase 2-3 hectares along the highway with a river at the back of the property for less than $7,000 USD.

We've already got a few friends living there, so we have an idea for the way of life there and the state of things. To me it looks lovely, the land is affordable for what we have to work with, and it could be a great opportunity for anything relating to eco-tourism.

Now that we have an area of the country to explore for land, we only have to separate, wait for my wife to create a Cambodian corporation, then sponsor me to come back into the country. After this, we'll buy a tuk-tuk and head to Veal Veng to cash out some of our crypto earnings.
