Indonesian Independence Day

17th August is Indonesian Independence day, one of the important ceremonies for the Indonesian government and also the citizens. We got our independence after being colonialized for almost more than three and a half centuries by European Nation and Japan as the last nation to colonialize Indonesia during the second world war.

Now the Indonesian Republic has been around for 76 years, which has been around for some time in human life, several countries which have got their independence almost the same time as Indonesia have already been way ahead in terms of development, and the welfare of its citizen.

During this pandemic, the celebration of independence day is not as lively as it used to be. It is because we still enforcing social distancing and new life habits because of the pandemic. The Pandemic has hit hard in Indonesia in the second wave, because it has been too long, and also because the false news, hoaxes and bad example from public figure made most of the citizen disobey social distancing for sometimes.

There is no Carnaval this year on the road or night market which is usually done by the government. Everything seems a bit quiet. It is also happening in the citizen houses, while they use to fly up the flag, this year only a few raise up the flag or put up Indonesian Independence-related ornament. Are the nationalism and the patriotism of the people fading? or it is just because things have been rough for far too long for most of us?

The only place that has a bit of lively celebration is the chatting groups. Either in WhatsApp or telegram and a lot of other social media channels. So How is the Independence celebration in your place?
