Have you ever been to one of these? A&W is one of the old fast food chain founded in America back in 1923, dude that's 98 years ago! It original history traced even further, as early as 1919 when the origin idea of selling creamy drink by the roadside by Roy W. Allen.
I know, this wasn't the history of my home country, why do I bother? The reason I like this has very much to deal with my younger age, when I was very small, there's this restaurant near my mother's working place. It's just couple yards away away from her office.
I remember very well, back then we don't even have M brand burgers. The only 2 fast food we had, 1 is Pizzahut and the other is KFC. Even KFC, we have only 2 outlets in the city. So, seeing A&W there, I was curious about what they had, and I've demanded thousand times to my parents, beg them to let me try.
Well, nothing had ever happened even I tried many times. Until one time, after church, dad brought us straight to that restaurant, that was the one and only time I get to try their fries, their drinks. A church member is having a birthday lunch there! Since then, I have referring the RB as the kind of beer that no age restriction!
Since then, I'm made myself a promise, I will go back to that restaurant, order my own set meal, get myself a tall glass of root beer, when I save enough money. And guess what, not long after that. A&W Ipoh has finally closed due to lack of interest.
Many years later, we've got an outlet here very near to my house. That's like 3km away form where I stay! It opens during the previous lockdown, and I decided to come and visit, the pick up the promise I made many years ago. Yes I've been to some other A&W branches before this, I'm just saying that promise will never expire, and I will visit as much A&W restaurant as possible.
Some call this junk food, low nutrition and high calories fast food. I call it, full of memories. I can never go back to my youth, in my memory, that particular outlet still produce the best root beer and best fries. I had to bring this home and let my kids try, to atleast understand once their oldman dying to try this stuff. They may not like it, but I just want them to know this is how it looks like, this is how it taste like.
Beef Coney dog for ex-girlfriend. She's ok with it, perhaps she doesn't feel the same like me, since she grew up in Kuala Lumpur, they don't lack of A&W here since 60s.
Had my Mozza Juior, taste marvelous with the beef patty, and slice of crunchy bacon in it. Love the sesame bun, and the salad bring a dash of freshness to it. It's good, but I still miss the childhood taste. Perhaps, my taste bud has changed as I getting aged.
And my latest favorite addition to my bucket list, is the golden fried chicken. If you haven't try A&W fried chicken, please do. I did, and have no regret on it. Don't take the spicy one though. I think they're alright, but I just prefer the golden version than the spicy version.
