The Cacti of my Windowsill 🌵

Bzzz!

Today I want to tell you the stories of my succulents.
We are in winter, so our cacti are now warming up in the house on the southern window sill, although all the warm season they are outside in the bright rays of the sun.

This cactus is my favorite, and now you will see why! Over 35 years ago, when I was a young child an ancestor of this cactus we planted with my now deceased grandmother. Even though I was very young, I remember the moment well and clearly. It was her gift to me.

That day I came home with a small child's cube with one edge cut off and sandy soil poured inside. In this makeshift pot this cactus was planted. It was no bigger than the fingernail of a grown man's little finger, but it had enough roots to survive on its own. And so it did.
It was a long time before I settled down and got my own corner. The cactus had been growing in my mother's apartment, where I rarely visited. I forgot all about it for a long time, but in my own home, I remembered the people who would no longer be with me, and I remembered my grandmother and that cactus.

I went back to my parents' house the next day and took the cactus from there. Unfortunately, the original plant has not survived in so many years, but I still have descendants of this succulent.

Now I told this story to my daughter and penetrated we together made a decorative cachepot for the cactus from napkin and paints.

The second cactus came into my life purely by accident. I was already old enough when this prickly one became my companion. One of my acquaintances accidentally broke off a sprout from his plant and was about to throw it away for uselessness, as here I did not let a living creature die.

That's how I got about half of the house plants. I could not pass by the discarded one. We are responsible for those we have tamed...

I liked this cactus because it can reach extraordinary heights. The parent of this cactus was over 2 meters tall!

An interesting peculiarity of this plant is that if for some reason it is damaged at the top - the point of growth, it sprouts lateral shoots, which in the end can be much larger than the stump from which they grew.
This is exactly what happened to my cactus.
Someone chewed its top while it was very small, the size of a surprised kinder figurine standing next to it, and it immediately sprouted lateral shoots up...

I'm no great expert on the varieties of succulents, but it seems to me that this:
Plant 1 - Acanthocalycium spiniflorum
Plant 2 - Cereus jamacaru
