What's Going in our September Gardens: Plus, Winners & The Selfie Wall!

@nikv got in early this week and posted some pictures of her flowering succulents, as well as a pretty cool selfie - check the new selfie wall! Can you spot her?

@owasco canned some tomatoes and felt happy about her efforts, having learnt ALOT this season about all kinds of garden things! Well done you. We all wish you good luck with your move and can't WAIT to see next season's efforts!

@trangbaby has been in lockdown like me, which means she can't buy more seeds, but she has some beaaaautiful flowers in her garden!! @proto26 shared his potato journey, as does @edprivat. I might just call them the potato brothers. See their new selfies in the selfie wall! And what DOES rotate after potatoes? Beans? @edprivat has been awesome at commenting on everyone's posts too - he's more than just The Potato Man! Whilst it hasn't been the most succesful of years due to the weather, and he's reducing the size of his cultivatable land (I hear you - it's so time consuming!), there's still some great things coming out of his garden like, well, potatoes, and butternut squash!

@fanyokami doesn't have a garden - she has a JUNGLE! Passionfruits tangled with spinach tangled with - everything! How wonderful!

@kimloan's post about her father's garden was poignant. She writes about her and her siblings leaving, and rarely having opportunity to visit their father. He takes solace in his garden. She writes:

And he took the garden as a consolation. He cares for the trees as he cares for his children as he cares for his grandchildren. Maybe our parents don't need much from their children. Sometimes, they only need us to be by their side for them to cherish and love. Maybe so! Because I'm a mother now too, so I can understand that thing.

Her father calls his garden his 'happiness garden' - I can see why. So many of us find solace and happiness in our gardens, dont' we? @kimloan wins 10 HIVE this week for her lovely reflection and beautifully presented post. Can you see her selfie in the selfie wall below?

@jonas0503 wrote about being stuck due to the pandemic, and missing his Dad's garden, just like @kimloan. His father's garden has lots of things that I can't grow, like bananas!

@farm-mom's post gave us all harvest envy - tomatoes, kohlrabi (one of my faves) - plus a reminder of their incredible maple syrup. Don't you love the well placed Bitcoin mug? Between her and @bigsweed, they've got an amazing garden - although the carrots were a little dismal this month!

@chacald.dcymt wrote about how to make the most out of red onion, and how to plant it's centre to grow another onion - I never knew that, so was super impressed with this tip.

Our sponsor @shanibeer explained about a pool she has planned, veggie boxes full of great veggies, and lots of observations about garden related things in her post. That's what I love about #gardenjournal - you don't have to have a massive garden or even HAVE a garden - you can post about what you're thinking about gardens, or other people's gardens - or anything garden related. I do want her recipe for rhubarb jam - it's rhubarb season here too...

The Selfie Wall

The selfie wall is turning into selfie WALLS - I love to see all your faces and thanks for making me smile! Can you name who appears on BOTH walls? There's a HIVE tip for the first person to answer correctly in the comments below!
