Spring Clean Up and Snow Again
I was cleaning up some parts of my yard and garden beds the other day. However, the weather is still unstable. We had a pretty big spring snow day yesterday. Spring snow is very wet and cold. It's heavy to do snow shovelling.
I was very happy with the spring breeze, but the white world took over our land immediately. Today, the rain is melting the snow. The sherbet-looking snow is sitting in my garden.
This photo was taken a few days ago when my husband prepared the vegetable garden beds. He removed all dead leaves and weeds, and added soil. We are going to plant beans, pumpkins, and corn, following the Three Sisters Garden style.
Actually, we had a raised planter between these garden beds before. It was constructed by the former owner of this house. It was useful and worked well for planting tomatoes. However, the wood had rotted and become very old. As soon as my husband touched it, it broke.
Additionally, when I was preparing the herb garden for this spring, I noticed that some of these herb planters were also rotten. They were also built by the previous owner, and the wood wasn't treated, so it had already deteriorated. I needed to transplant some of the chives that were already growing, and in doing so, I broke some of these herb planters. I think I can still use some of them for one more season, but after this season, I'll need to dismantle almost everything.
The raised planters were very useful, but it's time to clean up. I think we've spent a few years cleaning up the original owner's creations. That person was very handy and liked to build a lot. We prefer a simple style because it's easier to maintain. We don't plan to build new herb planters, but we do need to redesign the sections.
These planters are in the backyard. They are also useful, but again, the wood is not treated, so we can use them as much as we can. I am going to plant beans and sunflowers. There are some shiso herbs and lupin flowers that I planted 2 years ago. I hope they will come back this spring again! I cleaned and took dead leaves and weeds away.
These photos are from yesterday. Hmm... The atmosphere became winter again. I don't think this snow will stay much longer, but I don't want to feel cold anymore. We needed to use a wood stove yesterday, but our wood is also running out soon. We need to order and prepare for the next winter this coming summer.

春の清掃そしてまた雪
先日、庭の一部を清掃をしましたが、いまだに天候が不安定です。昨日はふたたびかなり多くの雪が降りました。春の雪はベチャベチャしていて寒いです。かなり重たいので雪かきが大変です。
春の息吹を感じて嬉しかったのですが、またあっという間に白い世界に覆われてしまいました。今日は、雨が降っていて、昨日積もった雪を溶かしています。庭にはシャーベット状の雪が積もっています。
この写真は主人が野菜の畑を準備していた数日前に撮ったものです。落ち葉や雑草を取り除き、土を足してくれました。豆、かぼちゃ、とうもろこしを植えてスリーシスターズガーデンと呼ばれるスタイルの畑を作ります。
実はこの畑の間にもうひとつ高さのあるプランターがありました。元のオーナーさんが作ったのもで、使いやすくトマトを植えるのに最適でした。ところが、そのプランターはかなり古くなったしまったので、主人がちょっと触っただけでバラバラに壊れてしまいました。
さらに、私も手前にあるハーブのプランターの準備をしていたのですが、いくつかのプランターの木が腐っていることに気がつきました。これも前のオーナーさんが作ったもので、加工していない木を使用しているのでもう寿命のようです。すでに壊れたプランターの中で育っていたチャイブを別の場所に植え替えてから、そのプランターを取り壊しました。残っているプランターは今シーズン使用して、そのうちほとんど取り壊すことになると思います。
高さのあるプランターはとても使いやすかったのですが、仕方がありません。これまでに何年もかけて元のオーナーさんの作ったものを片付けてきました。彼は手作りが好きらしく、かなり色々なものを作っていました。私たちはどちらかというと手入れが簡単でシンプルなスタイルの方が好きです。もう一度同じようなプランターを作るとは思いませんが、撤去した後のこの場所のデザインは少し考える必要がありそうです。
このプランターは裏庭にあるものです。これも使いやすいのですが、一部の木が加工されたものではないので、寿命がくるまであとどれくらい使えるかどうかです。ここには豆とひまわりを植えます。２年前にシソとルピンを植えました。今年も元気に咲いて欲しいです。落ち葉や雑草の掃除をしました。
これは昨日の写真です。うーん…。あたりの雰囲気がすっかり冬に逆戻りです。このタイプの雪はすぐに溶けるとは思いますが、寒いのはもう懲り懲りです。昨日の夜は薪ストーブも使いました。もうそろそろ薪がなくなります。今年の夏はまた薪を注文してまた冬に備えなければなりません。
