Viendo mi planta de Girasol (Helianthus annuus) quise compartir con ustedes la belleza que aporta a mi vida el cultivar estas plantas.
Un día fui a casa de una conocida y al ver un sembradío de girasoles que tenía en un pequeño espacio de su patio, me emocionó tanto que pensé, algún día tendré Girasoles en mi casa, fue un sueño que se avivó en mi corazón.
Hace cinco años aproximadamente el dueño de un vivero de mi ciudad, me regaló unas semillas de Girasol, al tenerlas en mis manos sentí como si me habían regresado algo que hacía mucho no tocaba, decirles que fue mágico, pues sin duda lo fue.
Me las ingenié para conseguir un caucho viejo y más aún para que un vecino, el Sr José, me ayudara a convertirlo en una mecetera. Les comento que para el Sr José fue muy sencillo cortar el caucho con un cuchillo filoso, para darle esa forma de estrella o flor que toma al voltearlo.
Ése caucho aún me acompaña, justo en este momento está en el la planta de Girasol que está floreciendo, más adelante se las mostraré.
Bien teniendo listo el caucho que sería mi jardinera para girasoles, compré la tierra abonada y comencé a plantar las semillas que al cabo de unos días germinaron y se fueron transformando en plantas hermosas independientes las unas de las otras, que comenzaron a mostrar follajes de los cuales iban brotando Girasoles.
No tengo la menor idea de por qué en aquel momento no hice publicaciones de como progresaban las plantas, es posible que el internet fue uno de los motivos por los que no mostré la afición que es ése momento ocupaba mis emociones.
Es esa época yo entendía que la planta se moría luego de florecer, y veía como cada una iba dando de tres a siete flores y se secaba, cuando en realidad lo que ocurría era que por ser tantas plantas en en un espacio artificial, les hacía falta más nutrientes en el suelo del que se alimentaban.
Con el paso del tiempo fui comprendiendo un poco más las necesidades del Girasol y he tratado de cubrirlas en las medidas de las condiciones que poseo para su cultivo, dado que aún no cuento con un área de terreno asegurada para plantar y saber que su crecimiento y florecimiento estarán seguros.
¿Saben? es toda una aventura el sembrar la semilla, asegurarte de regarla con la cantidad de agua necesaria, esperar que germine y ver cómo sale la planta, sus condiciones de tallo, hoja, el cómo se desarrolla en el paso de los días, mostrando si logrará crecer o se quedará pasmada porque no toma los nutrientes que requiere de la tierra; mientras otras si se desarrollan con fuerza y su crecimiento es exponencial cada mañana.
No soy experta en cultivos, pero he comprobado que las plantas requieren de los cambios naturales que ocurren durante las 24 horas para completar su ciclo, supongo que es algo natural en todos los seres vivos. Nosotros los seres humanos por ejemplo, estamos activos de forma natural durante el día y en las noche requerimos descansar, algunos dicen para recargar baterías, saben qué me gustaría comprobar ¿cómo responde mi cuerpo en Noruega, durante la temporada de Sol de Medianoche? cuando la noche luce como el día, con el cielo claro como la mañana.
Bien volvamos a los Girasoles, he observado que las plantulas o plantas recién nacidas son realmente frágiles, requieren de mucha atención y cuidados, siendo el sol su principal aliado, es vital que si decides sembrar Girasoles tengas en cuenta que requieren mucha agua, presta atención, mucha agua, mantener en lo posible el suelo donde se encuentran bien húmedo, que no les falte agua, porque ello contribuye a un mejor desarrollo de la planta, permitiéndole crecer tanto como quiera.
No sé decirte de dónde viene mi amor por los Girasoles, lo que si te puedo asegurar es que me llena de emoción cultivarlos, disfrutar sus flores y preservar sus semillas para iniciar un nuevo ciclo. He de explicarte que desde el momento que siembras las semillas hasta que abre la primera flor de cada planta, transcurren cuatro meses mínimo, en los cuales debes asegurarte de mantenerla libre de parásitos y visitantes no deseados.
Esta es la planta más reciente, tomé la foto para incluirla en este post y mostrarles lo majestuosa que luce la primera flor de la planta, al rededor pueden ver botones de otros Girasoles que irán abriendo en los próximos días, por cierto mide más de tres metros y está plantada en el caucho.
Mis vecinos siempre se muestran maravillados al ver la belleza de flores que nacen de mis cultivos, muchos de ellos me piden semillas y yo encantada se las regalo, cuando se animan a cuidar las plantas, logramos llenar la calle de Girasoles y se destaca del resto de la urbanización. Como te digo es un arte de amor, paciencia y dedicación, del cual también he podido obtener ingresos con la venta de las flores.

Seeing my Sunflower plant (Helianthus annuus) I wanted to share with you the beauty that growing these plants brings to my life.
One day I went to an acquaintance's house and when I saw a sunflower planting she had in a small space in her yard, I was so excited that I thought, someday I will have sunflowers in my house, it was a dream that came to life in my heart.
About five years ago the owner of a nursery in my city, gave me some sunflower seeds, when I had them in my hands I felt as if they had given me back something that I had not touched for a long time, to tell you that it was magical, it certainly was.
I managed to get an old rubber and even more, a neighbor, Mr. Jose, helped me to turn it into a rocking chair. It was very easy for Mr. José to cut the rubber with a sharp knife to give it that star or flower shape it takes when turned over.
That rubber is still with me, right now it is in the Sunflower plant that is blooming, later I will show it to you.
Well, having ready the rubber that would be my sunflower planter, I bought the fertilized soil and began to plant the seeds that after a few days germinated and were transformed into beautiful plants independent of each other, which began to show foliage from which Sunflowers were sprouting.
I have no idea why at that time I did not make publications of how the plants progressed, it is possible that the internet was one of the reasons why I did not show the hobby that at that time occupied my emotions.
At that time I understood that the plant was dying after flowering, and I saw how each one was giving three to seven flowers and dried up, when in fact what was happening was that because there were so many plants in an artificial space, they needed more nutrients in the soil from which they fed.
As time went by, I began to understand a little more the needs of the Sunflower and I have tried to cover them according to the conditions I have for its cultivation, since I still do not have a secured area of land to plant and know that its growth and flowering will be safe.
You know, it is quite an adventure to sow the seed, make sure to water it with the necessary amount of water, wait for it to germinate and see how the plant comes out, its stem and leaf conditions, how it develops as the days go by, showing if it will manage to grow or if it will be stunned because it does not take the nutrients it needs from the soil; while others develop strongly and their growth is exponential every morning.
I am not an expert in crops, but I have found that plants require the natural changes that occur during the 24 hours to complete their cycle, I guess it is something natural in all living things. We humans for example, are naturally active during the day and at night we require rest, some say to recharge batteries, you know what I would like to check how my body responds in Norway, during the Midnight Sun season, when the night looks like day, with the sky as clear as morning.
Well let's go back to the Sunflowers, I have observed that the seedlings or new born plants are really fragile, they require a lot of attention and care, being the sun their main ally, it is vital that if you decide to plant Sunflowers keep in mind that they require a lot of water, pay attention, a lot of water, keep as much as possible the soil where they are well moist, that they do not lack water, because this contributes to a better development of the plant, allowing it to grow as much as it wants.
I can't tell you where my love for sunflowers comes from, what I can assure you is that it fills me with emotion to cultivate them, enjoy their flowers and preserve their seeds to start a new cycle. I have to explain that from the moment you sow the seeds until the first flower of each plant opens, it takes at least four months, in which you must make sure to keep it free of parasites and unwanted visitors.
This is the most recent plant, I took the photo to include it in this post and show you how majestic the first flower of the plant looks, around it you can see buds of other Sunflowers that will be opening in the coming days, by the way it measures more than three meters and is planted in the rubber.
My neighbors are always amazed to see the beauty of flowers that are born from my crops, many of them ask me for seeds and I gladly give them away, when they are encouraged to take care of the plants, we managed to fill the street with sunflowers and stands out from the rest of the urbanization. As I tell you it is an art of love, patience and dedication, from which I have also been able to obtain income with the sale of the flowers.
