Thai gem in the south of the city

It’s our favorite Thai restaurant. It is many people’s favorite Thai restaurant and the accolades are justified. I have been enjoying dishes from the kitchen of Chutima’s Thai food house for over 20 years.

The restaurant is located in the south of the city. I remember when only takeaways was possible. Now one can also sit inside or outside.

All self-respecting Thai houses have photos of their revered King and Queen "presiding" there.

The interior seems to change every time - as more things “Thai” are added or upgraded.

At this food house there is also a raised altar where food

or drinks are offered to the Buddhist gods.

The ambiance and scene is set - now the proof is in the tasting. The menu has sufficient variety and spice levels - so everyone can delight their palette with many authentic thai dishes.
We started with loempia

and sayee sticks.(Asian but maybe not specifically Thai)

My family and I always choose our favourites. We had a combination of simple but tasty dishes.

chicken in yellow sauce

All dishes were a nicely balanced with many vegetables.

chicken fried rice with vegetables

Pad thai which is very flavorful stir fried rice noodles and can be vegetarian or with meat/chicken or shrimps.

chicken pad thai

It is synonymous with street food in Thailand but it is also typical thai food and delicious.

beef pad thai

These great meals were prepared by the wonderful and skillful chef, Chutima. Her son assists and her husband serves and "mans" the register. This is a family business.

I have been to Thailand and this is “the real “Mackoy”. More authentic you will not find and it is a labour of love for Chutima.

Chutima prepares every dish fresh when patrons visit or order. One must bear that in mind especially when visiting with a large group.

There is a separate section adorned with this large 3 dimensional sculpture. This area is used for more intimate dining for couples (upon request) or larger groups or when the restaurant is full.

Although this is a small restaurant - this area is more private and has a different feeling.

I always pop my head in the kitchen to say hello and to thank Chutima for her delicious cooking.

If you are ever in Amsterdam - this is a perfect place to dine for authentic thai food. It is family-friendly, the price-quality is reasonable, the portions are enough and the food is great.

All perfect ingredients for a taste of the Orient and a nice evening out.
