Willy Morgan Brings Classic Adventure Genre Up to Date

Willy Morgan and the Curse of Bone Town is a newly released point and click adventure. The developers, imaginarylab, are based in Italy and this is their first game. Before you pass judgement on this game, check out the trailer after the jump. I am sure longtime adventure fans will see more than a few callbacks to the classics. Monkey Island is one classic that had a similar story telling background as Willy Morgan. That is a good thing.

A tale worth telling

Willy Morgan and the Curse of Bone Town tells the story of Willy Morgan who is looking for his dad. It seems Willy’s father mysteriously disappeared. Anyone that has played point and click adventures before knows, this is just the tip of the iceberg. As with most great adventures, this one starts with a cryptic letter putting wheels in motion.

Long time fans also know there is going to be a lot more to the story than expected. That is just the sign of a great point and click adventure game. Hopefully imaginarylabs can hold the game together and create a long living franchise.

Willy Morgan keeps good company

Imaginarylab’s first release certainly seems to feature many of the staples that made this genre so venerable. Mainly a sense of humor. As you can see in the trailer below, there are little quips here and there that pop up. Humor is one of the hardest things to do and is not used nearly enough in gaming.

Classic Sierra games did humor quite well. So did LucasArts. From King’s Quest to the Monkey Island franchise, point and click adventure fans were well served by those two companies.

Willy Morgan and the Curse of Bone Town hearkens back to the days we played point-and-click classics like Day of the Tentacle and the Monkey Island series way past our bedtime,” says Daniele Falcone, General Manager at VLG. “Old school fans can finally experience this beloved genre with contemporary mechanics and introduce their kids to a type of game we don’t see enough of today.”

Calling point and click fans

Imaginarylabs are throwing their hat into the ring with Willy Morgan and the Curse of Bone Town. It is quite a big hat if that trailer is anything to go by.

Willy Morgan brings the classic genre into the modern age with 3D and HD quality visuals. There are over 50 areas to check out here. There are also 15 non-player characters waiting to help, or hinder, you in your quest. For those that miss the Monkey Island feel, you can get your pirate world adventure fix with a brand-new experience.
