Retro Inspired 2D Action Platformer Robozarro Launches Soon on Consoles

Robozarro is one of those callbacks to a simpler time. A time when games were easier to understand – you moved on the screen and destroyed anything that moved. Easy. Robozarro is a modern version of that simple gameplay. For one, physics are now a concern. This is an interesting direction to take 2D side scrolling action game.

Robozarro tells the tale of two robots

You control two robots that are attempting to investigate the disappearance of Dr. Zarro. Mech Angeles, where Robozarro takes place, is full of dangers that you must confront or avoid. Physics come into play when you pick up game world objects and fling them at your enemies or use them to solve problems.

Along the way you can upgrade your robots in Robozarro. These upgrades offer new abilities. Do not worry, you will need those abilities when facing the upcoming challenges.

Physics rocked other genres

As mentioned already, physics in a 2D game is kind of new. Before you start popping your knuckles to prepare to rip me a new one, hold on. I know there are other games out there that beat Robozarro to this. I am just saying, physics in a 2D game is not exactly standard practice. It is still an uncommon addition.

In other genres, particularly racing and First-Person Shooters (FPS), physics was a game changer. Who remembers the first time they played an FPS with physics standard? Far Cry was one of the first for me to experience it firsthand. I know, again, there were games prior that had physics included.

Physics in 2D is still quite new

As you can see from the gameplay video of Robozarro, physics are still cumbersome. This is partly due to the severe limitation that 2D represents for both the gamer and the developers. I am not saying physics will not work in a 2D game, just saying we are in the early days of how they will work.
