Can an old Nintendo DS work without the top screen?

Recently I was talking to my friends about the Gameboy and the games they each had, they mentioned that I had the Mario cartridge, so I decided to swipe a picture of my Nintendo DS with the game on it. I did that and they were surprised because technically I have a decapitated console, the surprise is that it was still working normally. I didn't really find it weird, but I decided to show it to other people and they all agreed that it was a rarity. I don't think many people know that the Nintendo DS has a trick implemented to keep playing even if you don't have a screen. The only downside is that you obviously won't have sound, the speakers are on the top, but you can easily fix that by connecting external speakers or headphones. Recientemente me encontraba hablando con mis amigos sobre la Gameboy y los juegos que cada uno tenía, mencionaron que yo tenía el cartucho de Mario, por lo cual decidí pasar una imagen de mi Nintendo DS con el juego. Hice eso y se sorprendieron porque técnicamente tengo la consola decapitada, la sorpresa se debe es que seguía funcionando con total normalidad. Yo la verdad no lo encontré raro, pero decidí mostrárselo a otras personas y todas coincidían en que era una rareza. Creo que no muchos saben que la Nintendo DS trae un truco implementado para seguir jugando aún así, no tengas una pantalla. Lo único malo es que obviamente no vas a tener sonido, las cornetas se encuentran en la parte superior pero fácilmente se puede solucionar conectando unas cornetas externas o unos audífonos. A continuación verán una serie de imágenes para que vean que no miento en lo absoluto, todo es real y no está para nada editado.

The story of how I made it work is quite fuzzy, I just know that I saw the method in a very poor quality video on YouTube. When you insert the cartridge, what you have to do is hold down the following buttons while pressing the power button: A, B, X, Y, L and R. If all goes well, you will see the mythical Gameboy startup when you go to start the video game. If I remember correctly, it should work that way. With this, you'll be able to revive any Nintendo DS you have lying around that doesn't have a working top screen. I was too much of an inventor, so I ended up completely ripping off the top screen. Maybe the problem could have been solved but it was too late, now I have a live headless chicken. I still can't believe that people don't know this trick hahaha.

La historia de cómo hice que funcionara es bastante difusa, solo sé que vi el método en un vídeo de muy mala calidad en YouTube. No esperaba nada, pero al final terminó funcionando de forma sorpresiva. El truco consistía de algo muy básico, lo esencial era tener un juego de Gameboy. La Nintendo DS al no tener la pantalla de arriba, al intentar encenderla hará el intento de prender pero de inmediato se apagará. Al introducir el cartucho, lo que deberemos hacer es mantener presionado los siguientes botones mientras le dabas a encender: A, B, X, Y, L y R. Si todo sale bien, verás el mítico inicio que dice Gameboy cuándo vas a arrancar el videojuego. Si no recuerdo mal, debería funcionar de esa forma. Con esto, podrás revivir cualquier Nintendo DS que tengas por ahí tirado, que no le funcione la pantalla superior. Yo como era demasiado inventor, le terminé arrancando por completo esa pantalla. Quizás el problema pudo haber tenido una solución pero ya era demasiado tarde, ahora tengo una gallina sin cabeza viva. Aún no me creo que las personas no sepan este truco jajaja.

Quizás muchas personas estén viendo esto demasiado tarde y ya hayan botado sus viejas consolas pensando que no tenían utilidad, pero para quienes aún conservan su Nintendo DS sin la pantalla de arriba, esta es su oportunidad para tener un Gameboy. El mío está demasiado viejo, he pensado comprar una carcasa y una pantalla para renovarlo y que se vea bien. En las imágenes pueden observar los feos rayones que tiene. Como solo tengo Mario, quiero comprar juegos réplicas que se pueden encontrar a bastante buen precio por Amazon, siendo idénticos a los juegos originales y de buena calidad (además de un buen remplazo a los juegos originales que pueden llegar a tener un costo elevado). Otra opción, para tener muchos videojuegos en un solo cartucho sería comprar una EZ Flash, el cual es un cartucho especial donde se le puede colocar varias ROMs. Si llego a realizar algunas de las cosas que acá menciono, haré un post para que vean los resultados. Últimamente tengo una gran cantidad de ideas que quiero llevar a cabo.

En conclusión, como habrán podido observar los queridos lectores, sí, sí es posible jugar en un Nintendo DS sin que la misma posea la pantalla superior. Hice esto más que nada porque fácilmente puede contarse como una curiosidad bastante curiosa. Ahora solo queda preguntarnos si quienes crearon la Nintendo DS hicieron esto a propósito o si se les pasó por alto quitarlo, yo sinceramente creo que es algo que utilizaron para el testeo de la consola, y que fue bastante adrede dejarlo, por algo hay que pulsar unos botones muy específicos. Lo que me extraña es la poca difusión que algo como esto tiene, busqué en Google y no hay nada de información sobre esto, lo único que encontré fue la forma de hacer esto pero de forma engorrosa, soldando una parte de la consola, se nota que dicha persona no tenía conocimiento alguno sobre este truco, se habría ahorrado muchas molestias.
