An open world space combat sim, it was one of the first back in the early 2000s. Freelancer was the only other one I know of before X3 and loved it. But it had a short story line and did not give me anywhere as many hours of gameplay this one has given me. So X3TC is probably in my top 3 most played games over the years. Spending 50+ hours in game just building up and flying around.
Grinding in this game is a mix of ship management, finding missions and just surviving again the Xeon and other hostile groups. As I get stronger ships it becomes more rare I am overwhelmed by their firepower. If anything its cool to take on ships that I used to have to always run from.
Getting deeper into this game after many hours I now have a dozen or so ships. Some fighters and some cargo and troop transports. I fly around in a cruiser I bought, it has strong weapons and shields but slow to turn.
As I approach the gate I make sure my escorts know to follow me.
Entering the portal I make my way to the next system, its just small animation with my ship flying through a wormhole.
I land on a station where I can sell some of what I found from destroyed ships.
Looking for missions I come across one to defend a space station, those are my favorite missions and mostly the only ones I tend to do.
Finding some pirates I get close and fire upon them. My cruisers weapons are quite powerful so it makes quick work of their shields and hull. Though fighting multiple at once can get dicey as its hard to turn in this big ship.
A short animation made of the combat in this game, fighting some space pirates and getting the first shots off as they pass me.
I collect some weapons from the craft I destroyed.
As I enter the next system, there are many asteroids but not so bad I had to be all that careful flying through it.
Setting off for the next place to dock, I find a high energy plasma thrower forge.
Noticing some of my ships were under attack I headed back to check on my transport ships, they carry all my weapons and cargo that I cannot keep in my cruiser. Need that space for energy cells for jumping and an array of missiles.
Getting close to my largest cargo ship, its just massive. I check out its weapons and see if I can increase its weapon power.
