Ingame photography

How about taking some great pictures inside of games?

It's cold, grey and rainy outside. Not the perfect time for a nice, long picture walk. Well, depending on what kind of pictures you want to take and where you live. Still, for me it's not happening.

I used to go out a lot and take tons of pictures to later put them on my computer and process them until they looked just right. I've shared many of those pictures here in the past and still use them for some of my blog posts.

Ever since my first burn-out, I haven't had the energy, nor the inspiration to do a lot of photography. It's sad and I really feel like I've lost a great hobby and skill. The pictures I take today are nowhere near the quality of the ones I took back then. I kind of lost 'my eye' for the best pictures.

Still, I do like a lovely nature view and being a big gamer, I now find those views inside of the games I play.

I have taken (and shared) many screenshots over the years. All while trying to write something interesting about the game I was currently playing and sharing the screenshots of.

Sometimes though, I really don't have a lot of useful things to say about a particular game and just want to share the beautiful views I've seen. You know, like a photo blog!

Part of photography is about the right composition and ingame screenshots are basically the same. So why not share these beautiful images with the world, as my 'Ingame photography'? Taking the perfect screenshots might even help me train 'my eye' for good photography in the real world. Let's look at it as an easy kind of training. Ofcourse, photography needs a lot more technique than just a good eye and composition, but it is part of it.

So today, I am just writing about my ingame photography and sharing my ingame pictures of New World, which has the most amazing lighting around sunrise and sunset, by the way!

This game is really photogenic and if only I could scroll all the way into first-person camera view, I could take the most amazing sunset and sunrise pictures.

As it is now, I am very frustrated by the fact that my character is forced to be in every single picture I take. @kaelci, who shares my pain, gave me a great tip to lie down in the grass, so as to hide my character, which works sometimes (see first image). The problem there though, is that the camera goes down with me and messes up the whole composition.

I hope they will introduce a first-player camera view some day. Although I hate, hate, hate playing like that, I love, love, love it for screenshots. It would really help me out with my Ingame photography!

Now I just have to wait for maintenance to finish, before I can hop in and take more, awesome screenshots.
